Ruoming Pang, an outstanding engineer and manager in charge of the company’s Apple Foundation Models team, is leaving the matter, according to people familiar with the matter. It has been the most important itinerary in the Apple AI rankings since the company began working in Apple Intelligence a few years ago, highlighting talent competition in emerging fields. Meta has been providing millions of dollars in senior engineers to the world’s top engineers, which is much more than the iPhone manufacturers pay for engineers to do similar jobs.
People say Pang’s departure could be the beginning of a string of withdrawals from AFM Group, with several engineers telling colleagues that they plan to leave in the near future or elsewhere. Bloomberg reported at the time that Tom Gunter, the top agent of Pangpai, left Apple last month.
The foundation model team reported to Daphne Luong, senior representative of senior vice president of AI, John Giannandrea. With Pang’s departure, the AFM team will now be run by Chen’s Chen.
