Suriname chooses the first female president of the country in the middle of the economic crisis




The deputies chose Jennifer Geerlings-Simons as the first president of Suriname on Sunday after her party was a legislative victory. The 71-year-old opposition leader became the only candidate after the rivals refused to nominate any one to lead a small South American nation.
