A bride was shot dead at a marriage night in a village near the southeast French City of Avignon after gunman masks opened fire, local officials said.
A suspected attacker was also killed in an evidential exchange of fire, and the bride and 13th seriously injured in the Gouorts village incident.
A manhunt involves many police and a helicopter run for an unknown number of suspects that have made flight.
French media report that violence can be linked to scored-score-score on drugs.
Authorities open an investigation to kill and tried murder.
At about 04:30 (02:30 GMT) Sunday the bride, 25, leaving the marital party with unidentified speakers, the unidentified speakers of the AFP News Agency.
Initial reports suggested by one of the attackers who are run by a couple’s car but Avigon Prosecutor Florence Galtier refers to the possibility of being hit “in exchange”.
The remaining attackers, who reached the car, fled to walk after shooting, the prosecutor said.
There were 28 people attended the hall during the attack, police said. A woman was also lightly injured in the incident.
The hall was booked in March “for marriage to people who did not live in the commune”, the local major Dianer Deier Perello said.
“I’m angry,” he added. “We’re close to towns, I don’t name it, where, we see this kind of thing before.”
Guillaeuce Molinas, a 50-year-old restaurant, said he fears that deadly attacks give the village to about 1,000 residents a “bad name”.
“The last major village event was 125 years ago,” he quoted the AFP say no details.
