Five years ago, Marshal Islands launched their mission to grew the status as the last country on Earth without a football team.
In December 2022. years, they distributed the things by recruiting coaches who trore Oxford Lloid as their technical director.
“There is currently a focus on building from the foundation,” he said In an interview with Ski SportsShortly after his appointment.
At that point, he did not even visit the five islands, 29 atola and about 60,000 people, which is located in the Pacific, more than 3,000 miles from the coast in the Northeastern East Coast of Australia.
The first goal was to collect basic equipment for playing football in place without prior history of the game, and then present school curricula to set the foundations for the future.
Last summer, the Federation of Marshall Islands organized and hosted an inaugural manual for the challenges, the Futsal tournament I challenged myself, Kiribati and Micronesia and B team from each. Kiribati beat hosts in the finals 6-2.
The progress of the project was quick.
So much that, between 13. and 16. August, Marshall Islands play their first-ever 11 international international international glasses 2025. year, with weak heads in Helma as the main coach.
“Two years ago, we could just dream about it and now it will happen,” he says.
“It was a long time in progress. Since we started, everyone asked when it was the first match, but we wanted to be a sustainable project and first we had real things in effect.
“We could take a safer option to work again the futsal tournament again, but the weather ticked.
“We want to be members of the Confederation and we formally applied for three different routes. We must be 11 – present 11-present, so we thought, so we will do it.
“We don’t want to have low risk games where we could play someone locally in the region and indeed, really good, but it won’t make us feel credibility.”
He also participates in this year’s historic tournament, are American virgin islands, Turkish and Caicos Islands and MLS Next Page Ozark United U19, which recently replaced the previously announced Guam.
However, there will be no host in marshal islands. Instead, the match will take place at the Jarrell Williams Bulldog Stadium in Springdale, Arkansas.
Reasonable? The American city has the largest population of Marchal people – completely around 15,000 – outside the country itself, due to free movement between two nations. Logistically speaking, it is obvious and much simpler.
What is this more impressive is the fact that Marshal Islands still do not have a regular funding course, because it usually explains crazy.
“We have good connections with the government and they support in what they do. They help us roll support, especially over the main island of Majuro, and we have a good relationship with the Ministers of Education.
“But there will be nothing from the government until there is a membership in the Confederation, which is a little caught-22.” More about it in an instant.
And thus the project relies on sponsorships and donations, with recent raising campaigns in the amount of £ 21,573.
“It’s expensive and we set up a huge task, but at the same time we felt that we needed to risk. We’d rather go big than take a simple option.
“We will just continue to push and raise awareness – and more the activities we have, it is more opportunities for people to finance.”
Now counting down the tournament is included, the focus is on which players will compose and crazy, they say that the player’s pool said it could realistically choose for “about 100 worldwide”.
This digit includes marched descent players, which grew up in the United States, as well as American origin players who grew up in Marshal Islands. It also includes two teenagers living in Germany, who reached through Instagram and then proved their heritage.
With the introduction of football in schools, from now on, that pool will only grow.
“Our players are very young,” Lube adds. “At least there are several older players in the group that will play this summer, most are just finishing high school, starting at the faculty or college.
“We’re Fully Aware It’s Going To Be A Tough, But We’re Got To Be Aiming To Play Against Those Want To Be Playing Against On A Regular Basis. No One Expects Us To Win The Games, But If We Can Put On A Bit Of A Show And Show That Cain Take Part, Then We Will.
“But we don’t want this 11 vs. 11 plays happen and then we don’t play for more years. We want this to be the beginning.”
In addition to playing international football for the first time, the acquisition of the Confederate member always was right at the top of Marshall Islands agenda. Recognition, financing and chance for playing in the World Cup Qualifications would be a change of game.
But it is far from the direct process.
“OFC (Football Confederation of Oceania) has fled the guideline of those potential members to apply and create our own strategic document to align them,” they say people say.
“I sincerely believe that it was on the back of what we managed to do because we are noisy neighbors and I don’t think people do how fast we would progress.
“We realized that we had actually met so much criteria for full membership, not just joining membership, so we felt like we were in a real strong position.
“Unfortunately, the OFC did not answer our application but a journalist in New Zealand. It is almost a message” Yes, in a strong position, which is a further nation that we have to provide our funding “, which is not great for us.
“At the same time, we are now applying for AFC (Asian Football Confederation) and Concacaf (Confederation of North Central America and the Caribbean Football Association), because we do not want to close that door off, and are actually more responsible.
“Especially with AFC, logically, we are in a strong position to get to Asia with Marshall Islands. We also have direct flights for Honolulu, and then on the mainland in the United States and we can reach any of these members.
“She could be technically in the ocean, but maybe he didn’t put it in a better direction and I would say that we would, until 2026, we will at least knock on that door for you at least.”
Sounds are laughing to say that his technical director’s role of working hours, on himself, on top of working time held in the UK daily. But it is clearly worth it.
Along with organizing the first international and confederate applications, there is so much work behind the scene for progress.
There are regular sessions that take place on the islands of Majuro, Kvajalein and Ebeia, and hopes to establish a league structure in the future, not exclusively directed at the tournament.
As many as 200 children played soccer in schools and there is an American substance for substances based on American-based, who have participated in two training camps so far. There is also a partnership with the special islands of Marshall Islands of Olympic Games and the goal is to participate in world games in Chile in 2027. years.
Marshal Islands are now home away from home for weaker.
“Get into the supermarket and someone will ask you,” Are you guys?! “It’s weird that, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, there’s a guy who lives near Okford who is famous for football!
“The first time I left, I didn’t really know what to expect. It’s the most discreditable place I’ve ever been. But now it feels for him.
“I have friends there; there is a massive community and people want to help you. It is one of those places where, if someone has nothing to give you everything. Everyone helps you. Everyone helps everyone.
“Two years on, they see the benefits. Children have a new hobby and there is a true path in which you can represent your country in another sport.
“You can get off the island and you can visit new places and you haven’t had that experience before. Even a year ago, so it doesn’t really happen, people start saying it’s good. That’s good. That’s good. That’s good
