The Police of Islam in the Northern Nigerian State of Kano arrested Muslims who saw food and drinking public, if the Ramadan sellers, if Muslims need to fast from dawn.
The Deputy Commander in hisbah, Mujahid Aminudeen, told BBC 20 people were arrested for not fasting and five for food sales, and that operations continue on Saturday.
“It is important to note that we do not worry about not Muslims,” he said.
Mr. Aminudeen said that any “disrespect” for Ramadan is unstoppable.
“This is the cause of the heart that is such a holy month means for fasting, adults muslims are seen to eat and drink publicly. We have been in public.
He said that they were 25 charged with a court of Sharia and were punished accordingly.
Added to hisbah officer that sometimes they can take tips off when people see people eating.
“We got calls from people who were angry after looking at people who eat the public and we’re moving easy to go to the place to arrest.”
He also confirms the arrest of other people seen in “inappropriate haircuts”, wearing shorts on top of knee drivers and tricycle mixed with men and women’s passengers.
Those who arrest this year are less lucky as they can deal with the court.
For more than two decades, Sharia, or Islamic law, was introduced working with the Secular Law of 12 in Nigerian states with a majority of Muslim populations. Sharia is not available to Christian minorities living in states.
Ramadan, the ninth month of Islamic calendar, has a special meaning in Islam.
This month the Muslims believed in the first verses of the Quran – the holy book of Islam – revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.
Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam, which puts the basis of how Muslims should follow their lives. Fasting was observed during the hours of daylight.
Ramadan is usually lasting 29 or 30 days, and expected to expire on Sunday 30 March.
