Red Bull recognized F1 testing was “not so smooth”, because they are expected with events at their tempo compared to apparent temporarily McLarenam’s before the Australian Grand raws in the season.
Over three days of testing in Bahrain, Red Bull finished at least the number of circles like Max Verstappen set the second best time last day on Friday behind George Russell.
But RB21 was regularly in the garage, because the team made changes to the whole test, but also suffered the water pressure failure on Thursday.
Neither Verstappen or Liam Lavson finished full simulation of the race, which would be the best indicator of the Temp Red Bull.
“It wasn’t such a smooth test as we expected and the team is expected, but it is better to find some problems here than later and why we are here,” to understand the car, “said Technical CEO of Pierre Vache”.
“The weather was not with us, not very representative for this track, but we tried to explore the car potential and tried to understand how it reacts to different settings and I think we have achieved more or less.
“I think it’s very hard to see the Melbourne’s starting order, you see that four teams look pretty quickly, including us, but we didn’t look too much in other teams, we tried to focus on our program.
“I’m not as happy as I could be because we’ve occasionally wanted, but it’s in the right direction, just maybe the size of the direction was as we expected and that’s something we have to work on the first race and future development.”
Verstappen: Work for that, but testing ‘is not bad’
Verstappen has the opportunity to be equal to Michael Schumacher’s representative this year, but Lando Norris enters the season as a favorite after McLaren impressed the testing the most.
On the second day of testing, Norris was faster than another faster than Ferrari Charles Leclerci and Mercedes Kimi Antonelli during the final gathering of their race simulations, although on faster tires.
Levis Hamilton pointed out that Verstappen had the last morning “decent” in the long run, but the Dutch played expectations.
“I think we had a decent last day, there were a few small problems, but we finished quite a lot of what we wanted us to do,” he said.
“I don’t think it was bad, but at the same time we expected and we will continue to improve and hopefully, while we will learn a little more, we will learn more through all the data and see all the data.
“It’s hard to say where every step is, so there’s still a little job for us. We look forward to starting again in Australia.”
