One of the first to criticize the choice was the former NASCAR driver Danica Patrickwho complained about Bad Bunny acting in Spanish.
“Oh funny,” Patrick, 42, wrote via X. “No English song should be allowed on one of America’s highest-rated televised events of the year … not just for sports.”
Patrick played down his criticism days later during an appearance Steve Bannon“War Room” Podcast.

“The Super Bowl is the most-watched show we have on television all year,” Patrick said. “An estimated 127 million people will watch it. It’s the crown jewel of television and sports, in particular. It’s where we come together as a country. We love it, we have parties, we love to watch the halftime show. We know we love to sing at the halftime show and it’s usually one of those that is very versatile across so many age groups.”
He continued, “I don’t have a problem with someone performing in the middle who isn’t from the United States, even though Bad Bunny is technically a citizen because he was born in Puerto Rico,” he continued. “He wasn’t necessarily born in America. I don’t care where you were born really. What matters to me is that I can sing along to the music. His music is almost nothing in English. I don’t think it’s that funny. I don’t think it’s that united. What I wouldn’t like to see is that it would divide us again, in a different way.”
