Let’s face it: not everyone wants to see 2026 Super Bowl this weekend
While most people in the country are yelling at their televisions or attending Super Bowl parties, some of us just want nothing to do with it all. And yet, we find ourselves needing something to fill our time on a Sunday night.

‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’ (2011)
When husband and family man Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) realizes that his wife, Emily (Julianne Moore), has been having an affair, her picture-perfect suburban life begins to unravel. Now over 40, divorced and new to the single life, Cal doesn’t know how to get back into the dating pool. That’s when he meets ladies’ man Jacob Palmer (Gosling), who takes Cal under his wing to reinvent him as a player. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Cal and Jacob, Jacob is currently in the process of courting Cal’s daughter Hannah (Stone).
This silly romantic comedy has an all-star cast that also includes Marisa Tomei, Kevin Bacon, Josh Groban i John Carroll Lynch. Ultimately, the storytelling is a little ordinary, but it’s the performances of the cast that really elevate it Crazy, stupid, love above their own material. Still, the film’s climactic “family fight” is a fun set piece that captures the swirling chaos of different kinds of love.
“Best in Show” (2000)
Netflix recently added this Catherine O’Hara classic in honor of the recent death of the late actress. From the master of mockumentary Christopher guest, The best of the show is a largely improvised chronicle of the fictional Mayflower Dog Show and all the eccentric dog owners who come to compete. Here, hundreds of hungry contestants from around the country converge to see who has the best dog, from yuppie couple Meg (Parker Posey) and Hamilton Swan (Michael Hitchcock) to Floridians Gerry (Eugene Levy) and Cookie Fleck (O’Hara) and aspiring ventriloquist Harlan Pepper (Guest).
The peculiar premise of The best of the show is made all the more memorable by the improvisational skills of Guest’s talented cast, which includes many of his regular collaborators such as Fred Willard, Michael McKean, Jennifer Coolidge i Jane Lynch. The best of the show it was so influential that the National Dog Show has been broadcast into millions of homes for over twenty years directly because of it. The movie is a whistle and a half that will leave so many lines of dialogue permanently lodged in your brain.
“The Ritual” (2018)
Four college friends get together for a hiking trip to Sweden in honor of the recent death of their friend, who had suggested they all go on a trip just before he tragically died. While traversing the dense desert, a shortcut leads Luke (Rafe Spall), Sun (Sam Troughton), Hutch (Robert James-Collier) and Phil (Arsher Ali) along a strange path marked by mysterious tree carvings and a disturbing animal effigy. As their journey turns darker and more deranged, the men have no idea that an ancient evil is stalking them.
Netflix is giving its many, many subscribers the ultimate Valentine’s gift: a library full of hit movies and TV shows to watch. From the director David Bruckner, The Ritual is a folk horror nightmare that comes at you, using atmosphere and tension to create an evocative experience that distracts from the familiar narrative. The film excels at creating an overriding sense of dread that you can’t escape, resulting in an experience you won’t soon forget.
“You have mail” (1998)
You have mail offers the classic black and white film The shop around the corner a modernized update through the magic of email. Kathleen, owner of a small struggling bookstore (i ryan) hates the owner of a corporate bookstore chain named Joe Fox (Tom Hanks). But online, the two have unknowingly instigated a flirtatious relationship after meeting anonymously in an AOL chat room. When Joe finally realizes that his online crush is his business nemesis, he must figure out whether to reveal himself or maintain their rivalry.
This beloved rom-com from Nora Efron it endures to this day through the loving chemistry between its two protagonists and the unflinching charm that Ephron imbues in everything she writes. The film’s cozy and nostalgic vibe makes it one of the best romantic and comfortable watches that works as a delightful time capsule to an internet age that no longer exists. But of course, the movie would be nothing without Ryan and Hanks, who shine as one of the best rom-com pairings in movie history.
“Pineapple Express” (2008)
Dale Denton (Rogen) spends his days getting high and working as a process server, delivering news to people they don’t want to receive, all while being a terrible boyfriend to his high school-aged girlfriend (Amber Heard). One day, after smoking a new strain called “Pineapple Express” with his dealer, Saul (James Franco), Dale accidentally witnesses a murder by a drug lord and leaves his stash at the scene. When the drug boss (Gary Cole) finds him and identifies the Pineapple Express, knows exactly where to look and sends his goons to kill Dale and Saul.
There’s nothing like a movie night with your best friends. If you want to increase the sense of camaraderie, why not ditch the romantic comedies or crime thrillers and watch some movies that feature life-changing friendships like the ones you share? Pineapple Express it’s easily one of the best stoner comedies of all time, but it’s also one of the best “bromance” comedies of all time, and a genuinely great action movie as well. Driven all the way through the hilarious performances of Rogen, Franco, Craig Robinson i Danny McBride, a somewhat scattered overall narrative and the loss of momentum in the second half are excusable because of how funny the jokes are.
