Lindsey Vonn is back in the gym two days after revealing he completely tore his ACL.
“I won’t give up 💪🏻 working as hard as I can to make it happen!” the 41-year-old skier, captioned a Thursday, February 5, Instagram reel that he showed him in the gym. “Thank you to my team and everyone for your amazing support. Keep believing 🙏🏻❤️.”
In the video, Vonn can be seen performing a series of exercises that include squats, jumps and lunges. The Olympian also lifted a big bar while squatting.
On Friday, January 30, Vonn was airlifted off course after a crash during his World Cup race in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. Days after the incident, Vonn took to social media to report it his injury.
“Well…I completely tore my ACL last Friday,” she shared via Instagram on Tuesday, February 3. “I also suffered a bone bruise (which is a common injury when you tear your ACL), as well as meniscal tears, but it’s not clear how much of that was pre-existing and what was new from the accident.”
Vonn continued, “Obviously, this was incredibly difficult news to receive a week before the Olympics. I’m very grateful to everyone who gave me time and space to process what happened and find a way to move forward.”
Although Vonn is currently injured, she still intends to compete in the Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, which begin on Friday, February 6 (Vonn’s first appearance is scheduled for Sunday, February 8).
“After extensive consultations with doctors, intensive therapy, physical tests and skiing today, I have decided that I am able to compete in the Olympic downhill on Sunday,” he said on Tuesday. “Of course, I will still have to do a training run, as is necessary for the race on Sunday, but … I am confident in my body’s ability to perform. Despite my injuries, my knee is stable, I have no swelling and my muscles are firing and responding as they should.”
Vonn added that she will “obviously continue to evaluate” her condition with her medical team. However, he has “every intention of competing on Sunday”.
“I know what my chances were in these Olympics before this accident, and even though my chances aren’t the same now, there’s still a chance,” Vonn continued. “And as long as I have a chance, I won’t lose hope. I won’t give up! It’s not over yet!”
This is Vonn’s first return to the sport since retiring in 2019. In the early part of her career, Vonn made several appearances at the Olympics and took home a gold medal in 2012, as well as bronze medals in 2018. In November 2024, Vonn announced that she would be returning to the slopes after surgery.
“I’m trying not to get too ahead of myself because I have a few hoops to jump through,” Vonn said in an interview with The New York Times. “Obviously, I wouldn’t be doing this if I wasn’t hoping to race. I have aspirations. I love to go fast. How fast can I go? I don’t know. But I’m not going to put myself in a position to fail. My goal is to enjoy this, and hopefully this path will lead me to World Cup racing. I wouldn’t intend to go back to the US Ski Team again.”
