More than 500 people attended a community vigil with candles to pray Savannah Guthriemother is missing Nancy Guthrieat a church in Tucson, Arizona on Wednesday, February 4.
Locals gathered at the Episcopal Church of St. Philip’s in the Hills to show their support the today show cohost’s mother, who was reported missing at her home outside of Tucson on Sunday, February 1st. She was last seen on Saturday, January 31.
“What’s happening is heartbreaking, and this community needed it,” Sally Shamrellan actress and former local reporter who worked alongside Savannah, 54, at Tucson news channel KVOA, told the local station. COLD.
Shamrell said he helped organize Wednesday’s service afterward Savannah shared a plea for prayers for his mother via Instagram on Monday, February 2.
“I thought a lot of people were feeling a little helpless right now,” Shamrell told KOLD. “But we can’t… All we’re doing is waiting for the next alert, which is that this isn’t about Savannah and the Guthries.”
“We have to come together, put our arms around each other and stand up,” he added. “Hopefully, and you know just light and really come together to wish and hope that Nancy will come home.”
In an interview with CBS NewsShamrell said the Guthries are a “very revered family” in the local community.
“Nancy and Savannah have contributed so much to the Tucson community,” he said. “They are just positive contributors and very loyal women. What is happening is absolutely heartbreaking.”

St. Philip dedicated the last service of the day to Nancy, 84, and attendees placed lighted candles at the altar. The vigil was broadcast live via the church’s official website Wednesday night.

She is full of kindness and knowledge. Talk to her and you will see.”
