Melissa Joan Hart details a nearly 20-pound weight loss in the midst of perimenopause


Melissa Joan Hart has lost almost 20 pounds and feels “better than I have in a long time.”

The Sabrina the Teenage Witch The 49-year-old actress opened up about the experience of perimenopause in an interview with people posted on Monday, February 2, noting that he didn’t think he could lose weight because of it.

According to the Mayo Clinic“Perimenopause is the time before menopause when your body is preparing to stop having periods. Perimenopausal women may start having irregular periods, skip ovulation, experience hot flashes, trouble sleeping and experience fluctuations in estrogen production.”

To Hart’s credit, he said he has now lost 18 pounds by cutting out sugar and alcohol while experiencing physiological changes.

“I actually feel stronger and better than I have in a long time,” Hart said people.

The actress said she has been working “really hard” and focusing on her “longevity journey” as she prepares to turn 50 in April.

“I just wanted to feel better. It had nothing to do with losing weight,” she said Clarissa explains everything said the star. “I really didn’t think I could lose any more weight, being in midlife and perimenopause and all that stuff, I was like, ‘Can I really lose weight?’ I don’t think I can.”

“I lost about 18 pounds last year,” she explained, noting that she was “just trying to feel better.”

“And doing that and figuring out fasting and cutting out sugars and cutting out alcohol, I haven’t had a drink in over a year,” Hart continued. “I don’t even like drinking. So why bother? So I cut those things out of my life and started feeling better. And in doing so, I lost a lot of weight and felt great.”

The drive me crazy The actress admitted she’s not a big fan of water, though she’s found creative new ways to stay hydrated.

“My husband says that when I drink a glass of water, I make a face like it’s the most disgusting thing on earth,” Hart said of her husband. Mark Wilkerson. (The couple share three children: mason20, Braydon, 17, and Tucker, 13.)

“It’s like, ‘You don’t like drinking anything, not even water.’ I’m, like, sipping it, like, ‘Eww,'” she shared, adding that she keeps her thirst quenched with club soda, limes and teas.

“I’ll make hot tea, iced tea, green tea, mint tea, any kind of tea,” the actress said.

Hart and Wilkersonalso 49, married in 2003 and going strong for 22 years.

“A big part of it is the commitment you make, right?” Hart said Us Weekly exclusively in a December 2024 interview. “If there’s a spark and there’s love in the beginning, then you can always go back to it. So trying to remember that the valleys or the lows or the times when you don’t feel as connected, you can push it out and it makes the highs even better.”

“People change, marriages change,” she added. “So I would just say if you made that commitment and it’s getting stale, that’s not a reason to end (the marriage). Work on things or be open, be honest. We build our marriage on trust. So I think trust is the foundation of our relationship. I think that’s a great foundation to build on.”
