Hell’s kitchen season 22 alum Leigh Orleans he had emergency surgery after suffering a ruptured ectopic pregnancy.
“I had a little surprise emergency surgery yesterday,” Orleans, 30, wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, January 27. “For the past two weeks, I’ve had really heavy bleeding and cramping. I’m in perpetual fear of going to the doctor in pain and being told there’s nothing wrong.”
She continued: “A week ago, I finally went to a fertility specialist who told me that I was probably having a miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy, and that they would continue to monitor my blood work. He said that if I ever had extreme pain that wouldn’t go away, I needed to go to (the emergency room).”
When Orleans’ pain persisted, she checked into a local hospital to her husband Elliotthe insistence of
“The ultrasounds showed severe internal bleeding that had filled my pelvis almost up to my liver and my fallopian tube had ruptured from an ectopic pregnancy,” she wrote in her social media upload. “I am very grateful for the doctors who saved my life quickly.”
According to the Mayo Clinican ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants and grows outside the uterus, usually the fallopian tube. If left untreated, the growing tissue can lead to life-threatening complications, including internal bleeding. Ectopic or “tubal” pregnancies can never be carried to term.
“I lost a fallopian tube, but I still have a strong one left 💪” Orleans said, offering advice to others who may be suffering a health or pregnancy complication. “The point is this: Don’t be stubborn like me. If you have unexplained pain or unexplained bleeding, go to the emergency room. The pain may subside (sometimes), but you can’t feel internal bleeding. You don’t know what’s going on without getting help.”

The traveling chef Orleans, who also has some polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), she further revealed that she had to cut back on her culinary work to recover. (PCOS is a condition where people have periods that are few, unusual, or very long, according to the Mayo Clinic.)
“Thank you to my customers who were so understanding this week as I had to cancel many jobs,” Orleans wrote in the comments section. “I feel sorry for my clients over the last few weeks that they haven’t seen the best version of me – I was in pain and I denied it.”
Orleans also profusely thanked her husband, Elliot, for “relentlessly taking care of (her) stubborn **” in her lengthy statement.
“I love you so much,” she added of her partner. “Sharing this story because my surgeon told Elliot I was a few hours away from never waking up again. And if he hadn’t forced me to go to the ER that day, I wouldn’t have gone.”
He concluded: “We have to take care of ourselves first, friends. I love you all ❤️.”
As Orleans recovers, he has his culinary colleagues in his corner.
“Oh my god Leigh! I’m so happy you’re okay now,” Sammy Tarantino he wrote in the comments section. “Thank you for sharing your story, it’s so important! ILY sending you lots of love and a speedy recovery.”
Howloni WindingMeanwhile, she responded: “This is wild! Thanks for sharing…Women often go to a real doctor and get passed over, told they’re fine and charged like a million dollars after insurance. No wonder we’re forced to find solutions on our own and it becomes our default whenever we feel something. Glad you’re ok.”
