As gang violence in Haiti increases, sexual violence is a growing problem. The number of victims treated at a clinic in Port-au-Prince has tripled in the last four years. Doctors Without Borders said it was “alarmed and outraged” by the huge level of sexual and gender-based violence. Gangs are estimated to control about 90 percent of Port-au-Prince, and many resort to sexual abuse to instill fear, experts say.
