Tim Allen‘s Gear change The sitcom found a creative way to poke fun Ryan Reynolds.
During the Wednesday, January 28 episode of the hit ABC series, Matt (Allen) was reunited with his son after Sam (Luke Macfarlane) returned from his job in the navy. Sam struggled to tell his father that he was swapping the military for an acting career, but Matt it finally arrived.
“That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard,” Matt said. “But who knows, you might get cast as the guy who actually wears the Deadpool suit. While Ryan Reynolds is getting his feet wet in his trailer.”
Gear changewhich also stars Kat Dennings, Seann William Scott, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins i Barrett Margolis, it’s not the only show they have recently thrown shade at the actor. NBC’s St. Denis Medical included a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it comment about Reynolds’ appearance in an April 2025 episode centered on an annual fundraiser where Bruce (Josh Lawson) tried to win the Dancing with the Caregivers competition.
Tim Allen’s ABC sitcom Shifting Gears has allowed him to recruit familiar guest stars, including his former co-stars from Home Improvement and Last Man Standing. Bruce was not moved, however, when Serena (Kahyun Kim) voted against it as one of the judges.
“I don’t believe in giving 10s,” Serena shared in a confessional. “Ten means you can’t imagine anything better.”
She continued: “Like, Ryan Gosling is the hottest man alive, but is he 10? No. He’s nine. Ryan Reynolds is six.”
Reynolds, 49, took on the role of deadpool in 2016. He went on to bring the titular character to life in Deadpool 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine. the third deadpool picked up six years after Deadpool 2 when Wade (Reynolds) was trying to live a normal life but was forced into a new mission that forced him to team up with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman).
Deadpool and Wolverine reunited Reynolds and Jackman, 57, in his Marvel roles for the first time since 2009.
“My feeling is that the character works really well in two ways, one is scarcity and surprise,” Reynolds shared during Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series in December 2024 while discussing the success of Deadpool & Wolverine. “It had been six years since the last one (2018’s Deadpool 2), and part of the reason is that it consumed my whole life. You can’t take your hand off the stick all through development, through post-production to marketing and promotion, and then you kind of (stop).”
After the success of Deadpool and WolverineReynolds announced his plans to write a new film that reunites him with Jackman and the director Shawn Levy. “I’m spending the year writing,” Reynolds told Variety in 2024. “I’m writing a movie for me and Hugh and Shawn so that it’s not Marvel.”
