Guy Fieri looks at people who “have disabilities” differently after an injury


Guy Fieri he has a new perspective after a brutal injury left him in a wheelchair.

“It gives you recognition for being healthy. You look at people who have disabilities and you realize that we take a lot of things for granted,” Fieri, 58, said during an interview with Weekly entertainment published on Tuesday, January 27. “People on crutches and things like that, the next time you see somebody on crutches, maybe open the way a little bit. Open the door for them.”

The Food Network star was filming her next show Flavortown Food Fight in Northern California in November 2025 when he “slipped and went down the stairs” where his “right leg got caught in the doorway,” he explained. “So I’m halfway through doing the splits going down the stairs, about a three-foot drop, and then I just grabbed this leg and compressed it, tore my quad muscle in the middle of my leg in half. Literally in half.”

After being taken to the hospital for emergency surgery, Fieri learned he would be in a wheelchair and on crutches for at least eight weeks, during the holiday season. The chef admitted that the incident made him appreciate life and his loved ones, including his wife Lorme, children Huntr, 29 i Ryder19, and nephew Jules26 — more than ever. (Fieri has raised Jules since his sister’s death in 2011.)

“I’ve always been that way as a person, but mostly not being able to move and see my wife go back to the grocery store and she’s carrying the groceries,” Fieri said at the store Tuesday. “That’s not how it works in my world. She tells me, ‘You’ve done it forever. I can do this.'”

She added that her kids really “stepped up” at Thanksgiving and Christmas, which helped make the holidays go smoothly. “They did the cooking,” he said. “There were a lot of positives. But now I’m better, now I’m back.”

Fieri offered the last time an update on your health earlier this month, explaining people that it was a “trying” holiday season as someone who is used to being as active as he is, but was “taking it easy.”

At the time, Fieri said his doctors were being strict about not rushing his recovery out of fear that his injury would relapse.

“All my doctors are like, ‘We know you want to keep going, but we’re not going back to where we were.’ And I’m like, ‘We’re never going back!’ That was the worst I’ve been through in the last 20 years,” he said, but noted that he would be “ready, healthy and rolling” by the time Super Bowl LX rolls around in February.

Gone are the spiky blonde hair, colorful dresses and goatee, replaced by a softer brunette look, shaved face and khaki pants.

“Hi! After so many years of celebrating my birthday as Guy, I thought I’d celebrate it this year as JustaGuy. Happy birthday to me!” he said in a video of himself blowing out birthday candles. In the caption, Fieri added: “New year. New boy. New look.”

Fieri later revealed that the video was actually a teaser for his upcoming Super Bowl ad for Bosch, and not an AI product as many fans suspected.

“They said, ‘Well, can you shave your goatee?’ And I said, ‘I’d do it for that. This is such an important commercial. This is a big problem,’” he explained people in a January 26 interview, noting that he sent a photo of his new environment to his mother.

“She said, ‘Who is it?’ She said, “It really does look a lot like you, but I know it’s not you.” I said, ‘Mom, that’s me,'” he joked.
