Amazon is pulling back the curtain on the life of the first lady Melania Trump in the new documentary melania.
The film specifically highlights the 20 days leading up to the 2025 presidential inauguration in which her husband, President Donald Trumpsworn in as the 47th President of the United States.
“The story is set in motion during the 20 days of my life before the US presidential inauguration,” Melania said of the film in December 2025, per Fox News. “For the first time, global audiences are invited to theaters to witness this pivotal chapter unfold: a private, unfiltered look as I navigate family, business and philanthropy on my extraordinary journey to become First Lady of the United States of America.”
The first lady said her story “has never been told, and because the subject is historically consequential, it was imperative for me to produce a film of the highest cinematic standard, uniquely suited to theaters around the world.”

What is ‘Melania’ about?
“Step inside the world of Melania Trump as she orchestrates inauguration plans, navigates the complexities of transitioning to the White House, and relocates her family to the nation’s capital,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “With exclusive footage capturing critical meetings, private conversations and never-before-seen settings, MELANIA shows Mrs. Trump’s return to one of the world’s most powerful roles.”
Who directed ‘Melania’?
The film was directed by Brett Ratner. Ratner and Melania also co-produced the document Fernando Sulicín i Mark Beckman.
ahead of melaniaBeckman’s movie premiere revealed that Ratner had “remarkable” access to the first lady.
“There were meetings behind the scenes,” he said The Los Angeles Times in January 2026. “She is a very private person and for the first time she allowed the cameras to cover her, her family, her philanthropy and of course her business endeavors.”
Ratner’s previous works include rush hour, The family man i X-Men: The Last Stand.
The director was previously accused of sexual misconduct in November 2017 by several women at the height of the #MeToo movement, including Olivia Munn i Natasha Henstridge. He denied the allegations. A trailer for the documentary was released in December 2025, featuring several clips of Melania attending meetings and photo calls, jet-setting around the world, interacting with her husband and son, barron trumpand more behind-the-scenes moments.
“Here we go again,” she says to the camera while sporting the famous black wide-brimmed hat she wore to Donald’s inauguration. Other clips show the design process for some of her wardrobe pieces, including the black and white dress she wore to the inaugural ball in January 2025.
“Everybody wants to know, so here it is,” Melania says in narration toward the end of the trailer before she’s heard on the phone with her husband.
A screening of ‘Melania’ was held at the White House
Melania made her White House debut in January 2026 with a screening for an audience that included Ratner, Mike Tyson, Queen Rania of JordanCEO of Zoom Eric YuanCEO of Apple Tim Cookphotographer Ellen von Unwerthauthor Tony RobbinsCharlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirkand Amazon executives Mike Hopkins and Andy Jassyseconds The Hollywood Reporter. Barron also attended the screening, according to the outlet.
Screening attendees received popcorn in black and white boxes, cookies with Melania’s name on them, collectible framed screening tickets and a limited edition version of her 2024 book. melania.
After the screening, Melania shared a thoughtful post via X.
“I am deeply humbled to have been surrounded by an inspiring room of friends, family and cultural iconoclasts at the White House last night,” she wrote. “Each of these people brought their unique vision to the world, making a lasting impression.”
The post continued: “Our personal stories stand the test of time and serve as a reminder of our mutual obligation to one another. It was an honor to introduce my new film, MELANIA, ahead of its worldwide release.”

When asked if he had seen Melania’s documentarythe president told reporters as he boarded Air Force One in January 2026, “I’ve seen pieces of her, she’s amazing. I think she’s going to do really well, you know, she did a book and the book was a huge No. 1 bestseller, and this is a movie, and it seems to capture a lot of people’s attention.”
