There’s a lot of responsibility that comes with that, but there’s also, more importantly, a faith and a belief that I find endlessly interesting for me to try to wrap my head around. And then I had to play a character that has a very different faith than any character that has that faith. More complicated than I thought it would be.”

“Malcolm is someone we don’t see very often on television: a faith leader who is also a man who struggles with things that everyone has to deal with,” Foley noted. “To me, that means he’s emotional and vulnerable. I love that about him.”
Foley enjoyed the challenge of bringing Malcolm to life.
“They said it’s a faith-based show and I thought, ‘Is this a scam?’ Is it something that will get in the way? (I wondered) will he get in the way? Is he going to hit me in the head? i don’t want this I don’t want them to proselytize me,” he pointed out. “And it wasn’t (like that). That’s just his job. He’s just a pastor.”
Foley continued, “The only religious thing is that Malcolm is a pastor. That’s just his job. He’s a pastor. So I went in and I loved that about the show… You get to see how important and what a role his faith plays, but also how it can be a little harmful at times.”

“I have three children myself. There have been mental health battles that we’ve struggled with here.
