F1 Oscars 2026 nominations spark debate after Wicked: For Good Shut Out


F1 may have marked four nominations at the 2026 Oscarsbut not everyone supported the film’s recognition by the Academy.

The brad pittThe directed racing drama took home awards for best picture, best film editing, best sound and best visual effects when nominations were announced in January 2026. While the fast-paced sports picture soared at the box office and became Apple’s highest-grossing film, there was certainly confusion as to why Evil: For good was completely closed of the completed list of nominees F1.

“I can’t believe F1 got nominated but isn’t it evil??????? Crazy job,” wrote one person via X, while another echoed: “Evil forever not being nominated for any oscars is crazy (and F1 movie getting multiples is beyond absurd).”

In F1Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a racer who comes out of retirement to mentor Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) and renew the APXGP F1 team.

Was ‘Wicked: For Good’ rejected by ‘F1’?

Evil: For goodthe sequel to the 2024 blockbuster evilgrossed $524 million worldwide and boasted the star power of Ariana Grande i Cynthia Erivo as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively. Grande looked set for a Best Supporting Actress nomination, while others were confident the sequel would get make-up, hair and production design wins.

“How did the F1 movie get four Oscar nominations, including Best Picture? Am I in disbelief and forever have ZERO?” one fan asked via X, while another wrote: “How the hell is F1 nominated and Wicked: For Good isn’t!? What money laundering scheme is this!?!?!”

“I’ve never been madder. F1?? About evil: for good??? Did they SEE the movie????? @TheAcademy I’m praying for your downfall,” wrote a third.

“You all argue about certain Oscar nominations and who got snubbed but we should all come together and fight the common enemy which is the F1 movie that is nominated,” said another.

The best resentment of costume design Evil: For good was perhaps the most shocking, since Paul Tazewell won the first film award in 2024.

“F1 made it to the best picture nominees, I’m sure evil forever could have made it to the best costumes,” commented another outraged fan.

Fans of ‘The Testament of Ann Lee’ are livid

Another critically acclaimed film missing from the nominations was the historical musical drama The will of Ann Lee.

“Oscars are always embarrassing, but nominating F1 for best picture and not giving ANN LEE a single nom is especially embarrassing,” wrote one outraged X user, to which another person replied: “They can’t nominate a movie no one has seen.”

This prompted a third person to reply: “Many members of the Academy have seen it and they are the ones making the nominations.”

Another person asked: “F1? Are you kidding me? This for Anne Lee?”

Others argued Amanda Seyfried she gave quite a standout performance as Ann Lee and deserved some recognition.

“Best picture in F1 nom. no Ann Lee or Amanda nom. spotlight when I put my hands on you,” wrote another, while another said: “I quite like F1 but that best picture slot should have gone to TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE, THE LONG WALK or NO OTHER CHOICE.”

Not everyone was surprised by the Academy’s presentation F1 a little love

“The F1 movie brought millions to the cinema, it’s visually so beautiful, the actors and producers worked really hard and the editing and music really pulls you in,” wrote one supporter via X. “This movie has done more for the industry than the movies that won last year, so yes it’s well-nominated for the #Oscars.”

A second person said: “My thoughts on the 2025 Oscar nominations: I like what I’m seeing here! I was very surprised to see that Wicked for Good had 0 nominations, I was surprised to see that Delroy Lindo got an Oscar Nom, happy to see Train Dreams and F1 get best picture. They are very big films this year.”

Another blockbuster missing from the Best Picture list was Avatar: Fire and Ash. (The James Cameron The film earned nominations for Best Visual Effects and Best Costume Design.)

“F1 was a good movie and the visuals were stunning,” noted another supporter. “I deserved this spot on Avatar or Wicked for sure!”

“Usually there’s at least one Best Picture nominee that doesn’t get the most critical acclaim compared to others, even if their reviews are still good,” said another person. “I thought WICKED: FOR BOOD and/or AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH would represent it for a long time, but it turns out it was F1.”
