Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is “100 per cent committed” to the club until the end of the season after “very good talks” with chairman Steve Parish.
Glasner, who confirmed last week will leave Selhurst Park when his contract expires in the summer, launched a sharp attack on the club’s hierarchy following their 2-1 defeat to Sunderland last Saturday.
But six days after his stunning interview, Glasner gave an open and honest 30-minute press conference ahead of Sunday’s Premier League home game against Chelsea, live on Ski Sportsin which he discovered:
- He did not regret his explosive comments
- He had a “very long dinner” with Steve Parishwith “all cleared” between them
- He compared his situation to “the sun shining after the thunder.”
- He did not rule out another outburst in the future due to his emotional nature
- Striker Vantawai Palace Jean-Philippe Mateta he has not submitted a transfer request and will play on Sunday
- It was agreed in February 2025 Marc Guehi would be sold
- He originally planned to make his exit public at the end of the season in December
- Daniel Munoz returned to training, doc Ismail Sarr is available after returning from AFCON duty
- Goalkeeper Dean Henderson will captain Palace until the end of the season following Guehi’s departure

In his opening reply, which lasted just over three minutes, Glasner said: “I thought a lot about what happened before and after the game, and I was quite emotional after the game, and I think that shows how much the players, how much Crystal Palace mean to me. Some might say: ‘Why do you care? You’ve already told the club you’re leaving in the summer’, but as much as I’m attached to the club, that’s what I’m attached to.
“And in this situation, with all the circumstances, and it’s not like we sold (Marc Guehi). I agreed a year ago in February, we had a meeting, I agreed to sell Marc.
“It’s all about timing and substitutions; that was the whole situation. I know Crystal Palace will always sell players if they have big offers from other clubs, but that was the situation, I told the team 28 hours before the Premier League game that the captain was leaving. That was my feeling at the time, and that’s what I tried to express.
“I know it’s like a criticism, but for me it was just to say the feelings, the emotions I had, the team had.

“I had a very long dinner with Steve (Parish) this week, and we talked about this situation – not to sell Mark – it’s the timing and a possible replacement, and this was a situation that I wanted to explain, and it was a very good conversation for both of us.
“But nothing has changed, what I said in the press conference before the Sunderland game, when I said I’m going to do my best to have a great season, and Steve and I are still 100 per cent committed, that we’re going to do our best to have a great rest of the season, a great four months together. That’s what we all want, and I know the club is working very hard to do now.

After the defeat to Sunderland, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner continued to attack the club’s hierarchy in the press conference after the match!
“It’s not that easy in January to find the right centre-back… but at the moment it seemed we could have done better for the success of the team, for the success of Crystal Palace.”
“This is everyone involved and I feel that way. There was a thunderstorm, but always after a thunderstorm the sun shines, and it started to shine on Wednesday when we started training again.
“Always being honest with my players, we’ve had a great week in training, great spirit, of course that’s lifted the spirits.”
“Dani Munoz came back at the start of the week, Isma Sar came back as an AFCON winner from Senegal and now we are preparing for the rest of the season. We started this week and the club is preparing, so everything is fine.”
He added: “Everything has been cleared up between Steve and me.
“He’s a great guy. Oliver Glasner is a nice guy, Steve Parrish is a nice guy, and if two nice guys talk to each other the right way, this won’t be a problem.”
“Again, I didn’t attack him personally; I just think we could have done a little better.”

Asked if he regretted his outburst, he replied: “No, I don’t. Do I think it was the best way to go? No, I don’t think so, but that’s Oliver Glasner.
“I think that’s maybe part of what we’ve achieved together, that emotion, this helps to create a spirit, a togetherness, a belief. But sometimes it might not be the best possible way, but that’s who I am. I’m not saying I’m perfect – I’d like to be, but on the other hand, I’ve never attacked anyone personally, I’ve just explained my feelings about this situation.
“I had a feeling in this game, we could all do better together. And then, maybe, I can’t prove, maybe we wouldn’t have lost. And that was my feeling after the game. And I always expect from myself, I expect from the players, I expect from the club, to give 100 percent for the success of Palace. That was my feeling after the game.
“And at this point, I think, again, we could have done better, and that’s what I wanted to express.”
“I don’t regret it, because I know what I am and who I am. But on the other hand, I know that maybe it wasn’t the perfect and right moment. They asked me if you think this could happen again? I said yes, because that’s who I am.”

When asked if his exit announcement last week surprised Parish and the succession, Austrayn said: “No, never. I was planning to say it until the end of December because I wanted to avoid anyone saying, ‘Okay, Oliver’s not happy with the transfer window, so he’s leaving’.”
“That had nothing to do with it, that’s why I wanted to announce it before the window starts.”
But then there were some reasons, all these games, and then we decided to wait until after three weeks of games, and then I told you.

Ski Sports News announced this week that Jean-Philippe Mateta has told Palace he wants to leave the club this January, amid interest from Aston Villa and Juventus.
But Glasner said the 28-year-old had not formally asked to leave.
“He hasn’t submitted a transfer request and we haven’t received any offer at the moment,” the 51-year-old revealed.
“Every player has a price where the club says, okay, looking at the whole situation – the age, the length of the contract – and the price at which the club agrees to the deal. But again there is no offer and he has not handed in a transfer request, so he will play on Sunday.”

Asked if he had spoken to him about leaving Palace, Glasner replied: “I talk to a lot of players about different topics, but they deserve not to say it publicly.
He added on the Eagles’ transfer plans: “The club is working hard. It’s doing the right things and I’m sure we’ll do the right things.”

Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong has emerged as a potential target for Crystal Palace in this window.
Palace are considering a number of options – both short-term and long-term – to help fill the void left by former captain Guehi, who joined Manchester City in a £20m deal this month.
Teenager Acheampong is one of the names Palace are currently discussing.
It is not understood that there have yet to be formal talks between Palace and Chelsea over the 19-year-old.
The two clubs have a strong working relationship, having exchanged a number of players in recent years.
Last season, Chelsea allowed Trevoh Chaloba and Ben Chilwell to join the Eagles on loan, with Guehi and Conor Gallagher following the same path before that.
It is currently unclear whether Chelsea will sanction a permanent sale this term or allow the youngster to go out on loan. The Blues want to sign a centre-back themselves due to injuries to several defenders.
Acheampong has started both domestic cup matches under new manager Liam Rosenior and has featured in the last four Premier League matches.
