
Ryan Coogler’s The bluesy vampire epic “The Sinner” On Thursday, the film led all films at the 98th Academy Awards with 16 nominations, setting a record for the most nominations in Oscar history.
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voters scored an unprecedented number of nominations for “The Sinner,” breaking the record of 14 nominations set by “All About Eve,” “Titanic” and “La La Land.” In addition to Best Picture, Coogler was nominated for Best Director and Best Screenplay, and double star Michael B. Jordan received his first Oscar nomination, Best Actor.

Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” Josh Safdie’s “Marty Supreme” and Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value” each received nine nominations.
Timothée Chalamet, 30, received his third best actor nomination among nine awards for “Marty Supreme,” after narrowly missing out last year for “Unknown.” Along with Jordan and Chalamet, nominees include Leonardo DiCaprio for “One Fight”, Ethan Hawke for “Blue Moon” and Wagner Moura for “The Secret Service.”
Nominated for Best Actress are favorites Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Kate Hudson (Blue Song), Renate Reinswey (Sentimental Value), and two-time winner Emma Stone (nominated for the sixth time for Bugnia).
The first category read by hosts Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman is Supporting Actress. Nominees include Elle Fanning and Inga Ibdot Lillias for “Sentimental Value,” Amy Madigan for “Arms,” Umi Mossaku for “The Sinner” and Teyana Taylor for “Fight After Fight.”
For supporting actor, nominees include Jacob Elordi for “Frankenstein”, Sean Penn for “The Good Fight”, Stellan Skarsgård for “Sentimental Value”, Benicio del Toro for “The Good Fight” and Delroy Lindo for “The Sinner.”
This year, the Oscars launched New categories of casting. This new honor helps The Sinner and Fight After Fight improve their already impressive numbers. In addition to these two films, nominees include “Hamnet,” “Marty Supreme” and “The Secret Service.”
