Israel bombs four Syria-Lebanon borders; 2 killed in South Lebanon | Israel attacked Lebanon

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun blasted Israel’s ‘policy of systematic aggression’ which directly targets civilians in Lebanon.

Israel said it attacked four crossing points on the Syria-Lebanon border, saying they were used by Hezbollah to smuggle weapons, following earlier attacks on southern Lebanon that killed at least two people and wounded around 20.

The latest Israeli violence came on Wednesday despite a US-brokered ceasefire, which ended more than a year of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon in 2024 and which Israel has violated it repeatedly.

“Once again, Israel is pursuing a policy of systematic aggression with airstrikes on Lebanese villages, which directly target civilians,” Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said in a statement late Wednesday.

“This repeated aggressive behavior confirms Israel’s refusal to comply with its obligations stemming from the cessation of hostilities agreement,” President Aoun said.

At least 19 people were injured in an Israeli airstrike on the southern Lebanese town of Kanarit, Lebanon’s health ministry said.

Israeli warplanes bombed buildings in several villages and towns in southern Lebanon, including al-Kharayeb, al-Ansar, Kanarit, Kafor and Jarjouh, after the Israeli military warned that it would attack domestic targets.

Earlier in the day, the health ministry said one person was killed in an Israeli attack on a vehicle in the town of Zahrani in the Sidon district. The ministry also said another person was killed in an Israeli strike targeting a vehicle in the village of Bazuriyyah in Tire district.

The AFP news agency said its correspondent reported seeing a burnt-out car on a main street in Sidon, with debris strewn across the area, and that emergency crews were on the scene. A photographer with the agency was also slightly injured and two other journalists who were working at the scene of heavy Israeli attacks in Kanarit, where 19 people were injured.

The Israeli military said on social media that it targeted four border crossings on the Syria-Lebanon border used for “weapons transfers” and also “targeted” a “main Hezbollah arms trafficker” in the Sidon area of ​​southern Lebanon.

A Lebanese army statement condemned Israeli strikes targeting “civilian buildings and homes” as a “flagrant violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty” and a ceasefire agreement.

The Lebanese army also said such attacks “hinder the army’s efforts” to complete Hezbollah’s disarmament plan, which is part of the ceasefire agreement.

Hezbollah has rejected calls to surrender its weapons amid Israeli attacks that have killed more than 350 people in Lebanon despite signing a ceasefire in November 2024, according to an AFP death toll.
