Patrick Bateman, 1980s Wall Street yuppie (Christian Bale) spends her days rubbing elbows with the elite, her mornings doing her extensive skincare routine, and her nights killing people. He loves cutting women, and has been very good at hiding it, both from his co-workers and his fiancee, Evelyn (Reese Witherspoon). But Bateman is not just an unreliable narrator for the audience; he is also unreliable with himself, and reality and fiction begin to blur when he is interrogated by a policeman (Willem Dafoe) for the murder of colleague Paul Allen (Jared Leto).

Adapted from Bret Easton Ellis’ satirical novel of the same name, Mary HarronSome who see Bateman as a “sigma grindset” hero, but those people miss the forest for the trees. In short, American Psycho it’s a crisp send-up of consumerism, masculinity and wealth, led by a forgettable comic performance from Bale.

Double aspiring Rod Kimball (Andy Samberg) is accident-prone but still idealistic, determined to become a respected stunt performer worthy of the respect of his disapproving stepfather, Frank (Ian McShane). However, when Frank is diagnosed with a devastating illness, Rod nonetheless struggles to come up with a way to raise money for his treatment: through a stunt event in which Rod will ride a motorcycle through fifteen school buses.

From the comedy styles of the Lonely Island cartoon group (Samberg, Jorma Taccone i Akiva Schaffer), Hot Rod serves as the group’s film debut together and remains a cult comedy classic to this day. Mixing absurdism, slapstick, anti-comedy and a genuine heart, Hot Rod is full of memorable lines and performances, such as de Bill Hader, Danny McBride i Will Arnett.

At the Grand Budapest Hotel in the fictional European country of Zubrowka, respected concierge M. Gustave (Ralph Fiennes) is framed for the murder of his great rich lover, Madame D. (Tilda Swinton). When Madame D. dies and her inheritance goes to Gustave instead of her son, Dmitri (Adrien Brody), Gustave becomes the prime suspect and is sent to prison. He is dependent on his youngest hall boy and protégé, Zero (Tony Revolori), to clear Gustave’s name.

Wes Anderson’s dollhouse aesthetic and heartfelt storytelling blend hand in hand The Grand Hotel Budapest, a melancholy tale of human memory, tragedy, fascism and nostalgia. Equal parts laugh-out-loud funny and tearful, The Grand Hotel Budapest it’s also meticulously directed and superbly acted. As always, Anderson’s film features a sprawling cast that includes F. Abraham, Saoirse Ronan i Edward Norton.

Novelty Dealer Barry Egan (Adam Sandler) owns his own company, but struggles in day-to-day interactions with people. He is often belittled by his seven domineering sisters, and is prone to violent outbursts despite his kind heart. When he meets a sweet woman named Lena Leonard (Emily Watson), falls in love with her, doing everything he can to overcome her problems and win her heart. However, their love is threatened by Barry’s accidental involvement with a racketeer named Dean Trumbell (Philip Seymour Hoffman).

Punch-Drunk Love is one of the greatest romantic films of all time, led by a riveting performance from Sandler and the first of many that would cement the goofy comedy actor as a true dramatic talent. With the director by Paul Thomas Anderson touch of conscience, a couple of sensitive lead performances, watercolor photography and a strange sense of humor that will surprise you, Punch-Drunk Love is a moving treatise on love and acceptance.
