YouTube TV’s Multiview is getting a big upgrade, allowing viewers to mix and match channels

YouTube TV has been slowly developing its multiview feature over the past few years, which initially allowed sports fans to watch up to four channels simultaneously on a single screen. Soon, viewers will finally have the opportunity to watch the content of their choice.

In her annual letter published Wednesday, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan revealed that the platform will introduce a “fully customizable multiview” experience. This upgrade aims to provide greater personalization by allowing viewers to create their own multiview layout, adjusting screens to their individual interests in sports, news, entertainment, and more.

The first YouTube TV rolled out multiview feature for sports broadcasts in 2023, allowing fans to watch multiple games simultaneously. These features later expanded to include other categories, such as news and weather, though initially limited to a select list of channels, including CNN, MSNBC, HGTV, and the Food Network. Later, YouTube TV started testing a way for a small group of users to manage the channels they want to watch together without restrictions.

This new capability is expected to appeal to larger families and households with different viewing options, as it allows multiple genres to be watched simultaneously on a single screen.

To try multiview, press the down button on the remote, then look for the Multiview icon or the “Watch Multiview” option, and select it. From there, you can select up to three live channels to add to your screen.

Additionally, Mohan highlighted the upcoming launch of YouTube TV genre-specific channel packagesdesigned to give customers more flexibility in what content they pay for. For example, viewers can choose special packages that focus on sports, news, family programming, or entertainment, tailoring their subscription to their interests and potentially saving money.

However, YouTube TV has not revealed much about the package, such as how much it will cost or when it will launch. We can expect more information to be announced in the coming months as the platform gets ready to launch.
