European lawmakers have suspended a US trade deal over Greenland tariffs

On Wednesday, European lawmakers blocked approval of the trade deal the EU and the US agreed on in July.

In a statement on Wednesday, MEP Bernd Lange and INTA chair of EU-US trade relations said President Donald Trump’s recent plans to impose tariffs of 10% to 25% on European countries are against the terms of the trade pact.

Referring to Trump’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday, Lange said: “I don’t think he has revised his position. He wants Greenland to be part of the United States as soon as possible.”

Lange noted the proposed 10% to 25% tariff risk, adding: “We will continue the procedure until we have clarity on the Greenland risk.”
