A half-naked woman was arrested last week in California after police say she allegedly stole a Sysco semi-truck and its trailer right under the driver.
Makayla Ballewansiel28, was said to have no bottom on Wednesday, Jan. 14, when police say he jumped onto a big rig that had been parked in front of a Tru By Hilton hotel in Manteca.
The driver of the truck, according to police, was making a food delivery to the hotel at the time of the alleged theft of the vehicle.
According to Manteca Police, the truck’s engine had been turned off, and the truck driver had the key in his pocket. However, once inside, Ballewansiel allegedly rummaged through a bag he found in his truck and discovered a spare key for the semi.
The driver told police he was still in the trailer of the truck, loading food into a cart, when it started to move forward. The driver told police he jumped from the trailer and suffered unspecified minor injuries in the process, police said.
The driver couldn’t help but watch his semi-truck and trailer get smaller as they drove away. He had his phone and called 911 to report the vehicle stolen. Within minutes, officers were able to locate the semi-truck and trailer as it headed south on Highway 99 near the Main Street Ripon exit, police said.
According to investigators, Ballewansiel decided to stop the truck in the middle of the roadway and then jumped out. He allegedly ignored police orders to stop and began to take off. She, however, did not get far. As she fled the scene, a K9 was dispatched to apprehend her. And catch her, he did.
Ballewansiel was wearing a shirt at the time of his arrest, but no pants or underwear. She allegedly had bite marks on her buttocks after the dog reached out to grab her. Police said he also defecated at the scene.
It was unclear where Ballewansiel lives, but police noted he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for burglary and auto theft out of Fresno County. The warrant was issued Nov. 6, police said.
“This highlights the problem of repeat offenders who commit more crimes because they are released” and not arrested, the police said in a statement. “This could have resulted in a dangerous end had he attempted to flee in that semi-truck and trailer that ranges between 35,000 pounds (unloaded) and the federal limit of 80,000 (loaded).”
It was unclear why she was half-dressed. Attempts to reach him by phone and social media on Tuesday, Jan. 20, were unsuccessful.
Ballewansiel was charged with felony vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, obstructing a public official and theft. It was unclear Tuesday whether she had entered a plea to the charges or whether she had an attorney available to comment on her behalf.
The Manteca Police Department is asking that witnesses to the robbery who have not been interviewed by police call the Manteca Police Department at (209) 456-8101. Reference case number 26-00225 when you call.
