The Trump administration has admitted DOGE may have misused American Social Security data

Two members of Elon Musk Department of Government Efficiency may have accessed and shared Social Security numbers in an effort to help an advocacy group “roll over election results in certain States” last year, according to court documents.

Wahyu, bro first reported by Politicocomes as part of a series of corrections to previous testimony by top officials of the Social Security Administration related to the legal battle over DOGE’s access to Social Security data.

The two members of DOGE, or the advocacy group, were not named in court documents.

In March 2025, a political advocacy group contacted two members of the DOGE team at the Social Security Administration (SSA) “with a request to analyze the state voter rolls obtained by the advocacy group,” Elizabeth Shapiro, a Justice Department official, wrote in court documents.

“The goal of advocacy groups is to find evidence of voter fraud and overturn election results in certain states,” Shapiro said.

Shapiro wrote that after that communication, one of the DOGE members, as an SSA employee, signed and submitted a “Voter Data Agreement” with the advocacy group.

Members of DOGE may have accessed personal information ruled by the court at the time, and shared data on unapproved “third-party” servers.

“At this time, there is no evidence that SSA employees outside of DOGE Team members were aware of the communications with the advocacy group. Nor were they aware of the ‘Voter Data Agreement,'” Shapiro wrote.

It’s unclear if the two DOGE members shared the data, according to Shapiro, but the email “suggests that DOGE Team members may be asked to assist advocacy groups by accessing SSA data to match voter rolls.”

According to Shapiro, the SSA cited two DOGE employees for potential violations of the Hatch Act, a law that prohibits federal workers from using official positions for political activity.

last year, a federal judge issued the order to block DOGe members’ access to SSA systems, which include SSNs, medical records, driver’s license numbers, tax information, and other types of personal information. Later, the SSA whistleblower sued the DOGE upload hundreds of millions of Social Security records to a vulnerable cloud server.
