Taylor Sheridan‘s Landman introduced a major death, a possible cast departure, and more: but what questions still need answers in season 3?
During the Season 2 finale on Sunday, January 18, Cooper (Jacob Lofland) convinced Ariana (Paulina Chavez) to report his sexual assault to the police. This led to Cooper being questioned after it emerged that the man died of a heart attack once he was taken to hospital.
Once Cooper’s father, Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton), he caught wind of the situationhe made sure his son didn’t get charged. With the help of Rebecca (Kayla Wallace), Tommy was able to prevent the authorities from arresting Cooper.
Tommy also dealt with the consequences of being fired by Cami (Demi Moore) creating his own oil company. He got all his former co-workers—and their family—on board by hiring Cooper, Ariana, Rebecca, Dale (James Jordan), TL (Sam Elliott), Nathan (Colm Feore), none (Mustafá speaks), King (Dougie Hall) and Cheyenne (Francesca Xuereb).
before creating your own companyTommy got an investment from Gallino (Andy Garcia) after questioning his drug cartel connections earlier in the season. There was also Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) seen fighting with the college cheerleading team, while also befriending her former roommate, who she decided to move back in with at the end of the finale.
Inspired by the “Boomtown” podcast series, Landman is centered in West Texas oil industry with a specific focus on crisis executive Tommy Norris and his family. Season 2, which premiered in October, set ratings records for Paramount+ by pulling in more than 9.2 million streaming views for its premiere episode in its first two days on the service. Views increased from the premiere of the first season, making it the most-watched premiere of any Paramount+ original series.

executive producer Christian Wallace teased what fans can expect when the show returns.
“I can’t talk much about what’s going to happen,” he said TVLine about Cami’s future on the show. “All I can say is, I think it presents so many new opportunities for these characters and opportunities for a different set of dynamics between the characters’ relationships with each other and their relationship with ambition.”
The biggest change for Tommy is CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle “starting from scratch” instead of “being in this pre-made, well-established company.”
“They’re essentially starting from scratch, and that’s exciting for me,” Wallace said as he broke down Tommy’s role as senior vice president. “You can see how sad Tommy is, having to get on a private jet all the time.”
Wallace continued, “Many of us might be excited by the prospect of this more glamorous lifestyle, but Tommy thrives whenever he’s in the patch, in the field with his hands, and really working harder on the day-to-day operations. It gives him a chance to lean into some of the things he loves most about this tough job.”
Thornton too weighed on the new normal in season 3.
“I’m not sure Tommy will ever rely on happiness,” the actor explained. “He feels like he’s got the old gang back together. He feels like he’s got the family back together and he can finally breathe a little easy, because there’s a freedom in doing it yourself. That’s probably the biggest satisfaction he gets from it. It’s like, ‘Well, you know what? We can win, we can lose. But one way or another, we want to do it, and we do.'”
Landman is currently streaming on Paramount+.
