Sister Wives Recap: Kody and Meri argue about money, house insurance

Kody Brown and ex-wife Mary Brown crowded heads throughout their marriage – but since retiring in 2023, their biggest fights have been over money and property.

During the second part of Sister Wives: 1 vs 1 special, which aired on Sunday, Jan. 18, Kody, 56, and Meri, 54, revealed that their arguments about money stemmed from the sale of the Las Vegas home, not the Coyote Pass property they co-owned. Janelle Brown i Robyn Brown.

“She wanted all the money,” Kody claimed during the episode, claiming that Meri didn’t want to split the proceeds from the sale of the Las Vegas house down the middle.

Meri, however, claimed that she had “never fought” against Kody over the fact that she was owed half since they were legally married when they bought the property.

Kody, meanwhile, claimed during the meeting that he and Meri were still working on a “negotiation” over the Las Vegas money, which resulted in Meri delaying the sale of the family’s Coyote Pass property in Arizona. (Coyote Pass sold in April 2025 for reported $1.5 million.)

According to Meri, her only hesitation with Coyote Pass was because of the nondisclosure/confidentiality agreement that Kody’s current wife, Robyn, 47, wanted her to sign.

Kody and Meri, along with women then sisters Christine BrownJanelle, 56, and Robyn lived in Las Vegas from about 2011 to 2018. During this time, each woman had her own house on adjacent lots in a cul-de-sac.

Since Kody and Meri were legally married between 1990 and 2014, when they sold the house, the proceeds should have been split equally, but the exes, who announced their split in 2023, have claimed there are problems with the payment. (Christine, 53, and Kody split in 2021 i Janelle and Kody broke up in 2022, while Robyn is still married to Kody.)

“It wasn’t like our divorce decree. It was 50/50,” Kody said during Sunday’s reunion episode, claiming that Meri wanted all the income from the Las Vegas house and “wouldn’t recognize all the money that Robyn and I had put into Coyote Pass, but she still wanted 25 percent.”

Meri applauded the allegations and told the host She likes Krishnan that while it would have made sense for her to have “full equity” in the house because she was “the only one who lived there most of the time we had it,” she never asked for all the money.

Meri further alleged, “I’m the one who made all the payments. But you know what? Your name was on it. So you can have half of it. Like literally, that’s how I felt. I’m not going to fight that.”

When asked why Kody had equity in the Las Vegas house, Meri explained it was because it was “the loan I have to buy Robyn’s house in Flagstaff, (Arizona).” Meri claimed that every penny of the house she sold in Las Vegas went to Robyn’s house in Arizona.

Robyn, however, had a different story to tell. He claimed that Meri “told him” that he was supposed to get all the money from the Las Vegas sale. Robyn also claimed that Kody “paid her insurance” and that he was “taking care” of other bills while Meri paid the mortgage.

“I paid those bills,” Meri replied. “Insurance is usually the house payment and the mortgage. He didn’t pay. I’m having fun with it. This is ridiculous.”

Kody and Meri’s money problems also stem from their contribution to Robyn’s house in Arizonawhich Janelle also helped buy while they were still in a polygamous family.

“It was a process of, like, you know, Meri and Janelle putting money towards the down payment on my house. We had already squared Janelle off. She said we were 100 percent with her, but Meri wasn’t,” Robyn recalled during Sunday’s episode, noting that Meri was “concerned” about getting her investment back plus money for Las Vegas and Coyote Pass, which allegedly caused a delay in the land sale in Arizona.

Robyn stated, “There was this back-and-forth. We talked about a non-disclosure because it was like, ‘Let’s not fight publicly about finances.’ So we were sitting there waiting for all of that to be worked out.”

She alleged that Meri was “trying to get to a place where she was comfortable” and that Robyn and Kody felt that “some of the things she was asking for weren’t fair.”

Meri and Janelle claimed during season 20 of the TLC series that Robyn surprised them with a non-disclosure agreement or non-disclosure agreement that she wanted them to sign when the first offer came in at Coyote Pass.

Meri, however, did not want to be “silenced”, so she did not sign it.

“Meri didn’t like the nondisclosure. She was worried it was kind of a gag order for her and she wasn’t comfortable with that,” Robyn recalled during the meeting. “And also just going back and forth a little bit with, like, considering the money that Kody and I put into Coyote Pass that they didn’t put into Coyote Pass, she didn’t want to factor that in. And then wanting all of her house money comes from when Kody and her jointly own the house.”

Janelle recalled that Meri didn’t want to sign the deal because she “couldn’t chase the money lost” on the Las Vegas house sale. La Meri, meanwhile, confirmed that the sale of Coyote Pass was delayed because he refused to sign the papers.

Robyn also felt the pressure to sell

Robyn recalled during the television special that Kody “kept pressuring me and pressuring me” and even “threatening me a little bit” to agree to the Coyote Pass sale before Meri signed.

“I said, well, if you want to go down that road, I’m going to make you legal too, okay? Because I actually have a percentage in this property and I’m going to sit here in the middle of this road, and I’m going to make sure that we don’t sell this property until we do it fairly,” he said, noting that he refused to follow through with Kody and Janelle. alleged “back door deal” to sell the land under Meri.

Robyn started to cry thinking about how Kody became in that moment someone he didn’t recognize.

“I said, ‘You’re better than that.’ You’re not the man I married,’ and I yelled at him loudly,” she explained.
