The Landman The second season finale is almost over with Cooper arrested for killing fiancée Ariana’s rapist, and now Jacob Lofland is breaking his silence on the future of the show.
During the Sunday, January 18 episode of the hit Paramount+ series, Cooper (Lofland) convinced Ariana (Paulina Chavez) to report the assault to the police. This became Cooper was questioned after it emerged that the man died of a heart attack once he was taken to hospital.
“It’s really script-by-script. (Creator Taylor Sheridan and I) haven’t even had that many conversations. I just get them and I’m like, ‘OK, I guess we’re going in that direction now,'” Lofland, 29, said exclusively. Us Weekly. “Up until this point, we haven’t really talked about it.”
Once Cooper’s father, Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton), realized the situation, made sure that his son would not be charged. With the help of Rebecca (Kayla Wallace), Tommy was able to prevent the authorities from covering Cooper.

“One of the funnest parts of the finale was probably working with Kayla in the interrogation room. As soon as I read the script, I was like, ‘I can’t wait to play this,'” the actor recalled. “Every time Kayla is on, it’s great to see her go from the sweetest, nicest person to this bulldog of a lawyer.”
According to Lofland, the plan was always to have Cooper avoids prison. “As far as I know, what we see in the final is exactly how it was,” he added. “It started and originated, and we stayed pretty close along the way.”
Lofland I wouldn’t rule out Cooper is still haunted by the Season 3 murder, adding, “As a person, it’s something that they’re definitely going to carry. It’s not something that they’re going to forget by any means. It’s definitely going to weigh on them in some way, shape, or form.”
Elsewhere in the finale, Tommy tried to get fired by Cami (Demi Moore) creating his own oil company. He got all his former co-workers—and family—to join them in making plans to compete with M Tex Oil.
“Hopefully we’ll get back in the oil and do some stuff like that next season. Really in the patch and working,” he teased. “Taylor always surprises us, so I try not to have too many ideas in my head. I trust the process, but I’m just looking forward to getting the scripts and seeing where we all go together.”
He continued, “There are so many directions we could go in Season 3 that I’m not really sure about. There will be obstacles and bumps because nothing can be perfect. There’s a lot of things up in the air that we’re waiting to figure out.”
Lofland also weighed Cooper and Ariana’s future, including possible marriage and more children.
“We thought it might happen in Season 2. It hasn’t happened yet, so we’ll see. We’re taking it longer than we thought. Every time I opened the next script, I was like, ‘OK, this is the wedding.’ But here we are,” he said. “We’re all still waiting. I love it. I love their dynamic and there’s always a clash. That’s the fun. That’s the fun with Taylor’s universe.”
