The Trump administration wants countries to pay $1 billion to stay on the Peace Council, Bloomberg reported late Saturday, citing a draft of the group’s charter.
The Peace Council is an international body approved by the United Nations Security Council in November 2025. The board was created to monitor the Israel-Hamas ceasefire agreement.
President of the USA Donald Trump Under the draft proposed by Bloomberg, the group would have an inaugural chairman and is expected to choose which members to invite. In the event of a majority vote, the chairperson shall have final approval.
Member states serve on the board of directors for three years, but could secure a permanent seat by paying $1 billion in cash during the first year of the charter, according to the draft.
A US official told CNBC that there is no cost to join the Peace Council, but a $1 billion fee ensures permanent membership. The group’s mandate is to “rebuild all of Gaza” and “virtually every dollar” raised will go toward that mandate. The group will operate without “excessive salaries and massive administrative turmoil,” the official said.
It is not known where the funds collected from members of the Peace Council will be spent.
Trump invited a number of world leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and himself Argentine President Javier MaileFor Gaza to join the peace council, it will be part of the larger Peace Council, Bloomberg reported on Saturday.
Several other countries including Hungary, India, Jordan, Greece, Cyprus and Pakistan Confirmed the invitation of the Peace CouncilAP News reported on Sunday.
Before that, Turkey, Egypt, Paraguay and Albania were invited. The full list may be published by the United States in the coming days, the Associated Press reports.
Under Trump’s leadership, the group also a founding executive board The White House said in a statement on Friday that it would “oversee a specific portfolio that is critical to the stabilization and long-term success of Gaza.”
