For more than two weeks, demonstrations have rocked Iran and, according to a human rights group, more than 2,600 protesters have been killed.
The protesters were met with deadly force by the authorities, which was capped by a near-total shutdown of the internet and communications services.
Reporting from the Iran-Armenian border, the BBC’s Middle East correspondent, Hugo Bachega, describes the “anger and frustration” of Iranians and their concerns for the future.
“People are afraid to participate in demonstrations,” he added.
The Iranian government called the protests “riots” supported by Iran’s enemies.
The economic demonstrations began on 28 December and turned into calls for the end of the rule of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Hosseini Khamenei.
