Civilians fled the Kurdish-held region of northern Syria on Friday ahead of a deadline set by the army, which is seeking to expand its control over the area after driving Kurdish forces out of Aleppo. The government is seeking to expand its powers across the country following the ouster of longtime leader Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.
