UN peacekeepers say a drone ‘dropped a grenade’ on Israeli forces as they continue to attack Lebanon.

An Israeli strike has killed two people in Lebanon, according to Lebanon’s health ministry, in the latest breach. Armistice Agreement including Hezbollah.
In a statement on Friday, the public health ministry said one person was killed in an “Israeli enemy attack” on a vehicle in Mansouri, south Lebanon.

It also said one person was killed in an attack on the southern town of Mefadun the night before. Israel said the victim of that attack was a Hezbollah member who it alleged had “participated in efforts to reestablish Hezbollah infrastructure in the Jawtar al-Sharqiya area.”
Israeli forces launched several strikes on Thursday in east Lebanon’s Bekaa region, north of the Litani River, after an evacuation warning was issued.
On Friday, United Nations peacekeepers stationed in southern Lebanon sent a request to the Israeli military to stop after drones “dropped grenades” on their forces. It was not clear whether the grenade exploded.
UNIFIL has said such actions pose a threat to both civilians and peacekeepers and are in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
UNIFIL was established in 1978 following Israel’s invasion of southern Lebanon and expanded its mandate significantly following the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah under Resolution 1701.
More than 10,000 peacekeepers were deployed to monitor the cessation of hostilities and support the Lebanese army presence south of the Litani River.
The UN Security Council took the decision in August Terminate UNIFIL’s mandate on December 31, 2026, followed by a one-year plan to phase out troops.
Israel has continued to violate a cease-fire with Hezbollah since late November 2024, resulting in hundreds of deaths, while Israeli forces hold on to five Lebanese hills captured in the latest war, in addition to other areas they have held for decades.
Lebanon has faced increasing pressure from the US and Israel to disarm Hezbollah, and its leaders fear that Israel could dramatically increase attacks across the country to pressure Lebanese leaders to seize Hezbollah’s arsenals more quickly.
