
The United States said on Thursday that Iran had halted 800 executions of protesters under pressure from President Donald Trump, after its Gulf allies pulled out of military action over Tehran’s deadly crackdown on demonstrations. Iran has been rocked for the past week by some of the largest anti-government protests in the Islamic Republic’s history, although the demonstrations appear to have subsided in recent days due to a crackdown and a week-long internet blackout.
