by Camilla Luddington Grey’s Anatomy Pregnant character Jo survived an emergency C-section and the premature birth of her twins, but she’s not out of the woods yet.
During the Thursday, January 15 episode of the hit ABC series, Jo was still in the hospital after giving birth to her and Link (Chris Carmack) twins. Babies, meanwhile, remained in the NICUwhich Jo visited later in the episode.
Link and others at Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital realized that Jo had been struggling emotionally after hooking several people, including Winston (Anthony Hill). She subsequently developed a friendship with another mother who allowed her to open up about her postpartum hormone drips.
After her new mother friend collapsed, Jo tried to help treat her via speakerphone, which worked temporarily while an intern was treating the woman. But once her friend was stabilized, Jo was not allowed access to her chart, causing Jo to break down in tears as Link whisked her away without her permission.
The new episode of Grey’s Anatomy also explored Jules (Adelaide Kane) in love with Winston, who is still unaware of Jules’ feelings. Lucas (Niko Terho), meanwhile, was interrogated by Simone (Alexis Floyd) to text her cancer patient while Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) attempted a risky operation.
Catherine (Debbie Allen) arrived at the hospital with Dr. Laura Kaplan (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) in an attempt to offer Richard (James Pickens Jr.) treatment options after your cancer diagnosis. Despite having concerns about the side effects, Richard accepted Laura’s suggestions.

Pickens, 72, opened the envelope his own health soon takes a fright after Richard’s diagnosis was aired on the show.
“It’s not the kind of news that anybody wants to hear, but to be honest, prostate cancer has run in my family,” Pickens told Black Health Matters in November 2025. “My dad had it. I had a lot of brothers; a lot of them had it. I would have been surprised if I didn’t have it.”
He added: “I have a 90-year-old first cousin, who’s still alive, actually, (and) he had it. His son has it, a couple of his brothers had it. No one, to my knowledge, has succumbed to it.”
Pickens clarified that he was diagnosed earlier this year.
“I started getting my annual physical 34 years ago, and I started my PSA test when I was 41. Now I’m 73,” she recalled. “My urologist said, ‘Because you were so diligent about this part of your health, it was for you. We were able to detect it so early because they were testing you.”
After seeing a specialist, Pickens he chose to have a prostatectomy.
“We picked it up very early, and so they thought it would be the best route to take,” Pickens explained. “I have a rare variant that you don’t see very often. They wanted to err on the side of caution and keep an eye on it. It was rare enough that they wanted to make sure they were crossing all their T’s and dotting all their I’s, but they hadn’t seen one detected as early as mine.”
Pickens later revealed that she is now in remission, writing via Instagram that same month: “Hi friends, I’m blessed and thankful to be cancer free. Thank you so much for all the love and support! Check back!”
Grey’s Anatomy airs on ABC on Thursdays at 10pm ET before rebroadcasting the next day on Hulu.
