A recent White House meeting between officials from Greenland, Denmark and the US underscores the islands’ delicate balancing act. Historical connections, modern aspirations and the projection of global power play out in the Arctic, where climate, trade and sovereignty are tightly intertwined. Greenland stands firm in the face of an oncoming superpower. “It’s not for sale, it’s open for business,” says Ulrik Pram Gad, senior researcher at the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS).
