Is the EU-Mercosur trade agreement more than a “cow for cars” deal?




A qualified majority of EU countries has finally approved the EU-Mercosur trade deal, more than 25 years after talks between the two blocs began. Opposition remains fierce, especially from the European agricultural sector. Charles Pellegrin talks to María Concepcion Lator, a professor of applied economics at the Comlutense University of Madrid, who argues that the pact’s advantages outweigh its disadvantages.
