A woman attending a visit with her grandchildren at a Georgia funeral home was fatally shot in a “senseless” shooting while outside, according to her family.
Ina Chambers and another woman was suddenly struck shots at Gus Thornhill Funeral Home in East Point on Friday, Jan. 9, loved ones told WAGA-TV.
Chambers, 55, was remembered by her brother, Ephraim Jenkins as a “vibrant” and “very biblical” woman, whom he described as “the best” while speaking to TV.
The shooting is under investigation.
Police said in a Jan. 9 news release that Chambers had just dropped off her granddaughter at the viewing, which was for another family member, when several shots were fired while she was “near the entrance of the funeral home.”
Chambers was pronounced dead at the property by the Fulton County Coroner’s Office, according to police.
Another woman was treated for “minor non-life threatening” injuries, police said.
According to police, detectives are looking for several suspects allegedly involved in the shooting, as well as their vehicles.
“I would like to express our deepest condolences to the families who experienced this tragedy,” said East Point Police Chief. Shawn Buchanan he said in a statement.
“It is an outrage that cowardly individuals would have chosen to commit such senseless acts of violence while four families attending the viewings were at their most vulnerable,” Buchanan added.

The family is demanding justice for Chambers.
Jenkins, reacting to how no arrests have been made in her death, said, “At this point, it’s hard for us to think about all of this,” Atlanta News first reported.
“It’s only been a couple of days and you don’t want anger, but we need justice and we want justice,” Jenkins said.
“If you’re out there doing mindless things like that, you just know that the world goes round and round, you never know how,” he added. “Well, please stop, stop.”
Chambers’ husband, Phil Chamberswho was married to her for eight years, told WAGA-TV he didn’t “know what to do.”
“I just lost my wife,” he said.
As part of the investigation, detectives are looking at local surveillance footage, WAGA-TV reported. They are also trying to determine if a separate shooting that happened near the funeral home on Jan. 9 is related to the shooting that killed Ina.
Sherry Thornhillco-owner of Gus Thornhill Funeral Home, expressed her support and grief for Ina’s family while speaking with WSB-TV.
He also shared a message to the suspects potentially involved in the shooting, according to the TV station, saying: “We they are looking for youand I believe in the East Point City Police Department that they will come after you.”
In a statement, Buchanan said, “Our team will not rest until justice is served.”
East Point police are asking anyone with information relevant to the investigation to call the department at 404-761-2170.
