How CBS execs reacted to Nikki Glaser’s 2026 Golden Globes monologue


Nikki Glaser made a bold statement about CBS, home of the Golden Globe – while hosting the awards show, but how did the discussion with network executives go?

“I think when you start off by making a self-deprecating joke about your own plastic surgery, you set the tone of, ‘I’m not here to really hurt people,'” the producer. Ricky Kirshner said in an interview with variety published on Monday, January 12.

Kirshner revealed that he was “sitting next to the CBS executive” while Glaser, 41, rehearsed his monologue.

“She did, I was sitting with the CBS executive and I looked at her and she texted a few people and said, ‘Yeah, that’s okay.’ It’s OK,'” Kirshner recalled.

Production company Glenn WeissMeanwhile, she had heard Glaser’s joke while getting ready at the clubs before the big day.

“Everything in the monologue, why it nails it so well is that we’re making fun of the whole industry, including ourselves,” Weiss added. “It’s been fun.”

During the opening of the 83rd annual Golden Globes on Sunday, January 11, Glaser he held nothing back. Glaser also put some of the biggest stars of the night in the hot seat, included George Clooney i Leonardo DiCaprio.

“What a career you’ve had,” he said of DiCaprio, 51, who had it nominated for his role in One battle after another. “Countless iconic performances. You’ve worked with all the great directors, won three Golden Globes and an Oscar. The most impressive thing is that you were able to do it before your girlfriend turned 30.”

Glaser later acknowledged that he took a “cheap” shot at the actor. “I tried not to, but we don’t know anything else about you, man. There’s nothing else. Open up!” she continued. “I’m serious!
