Nikki Glaser made a bold statement about CBS, home of the Golden Globe – while hosting the awards show, but how did the discussion with network executives go?
“I think when you start off by making a self-deprecating joke about your own plastic surgery, you set the tone of, ‘I’m not here to really hurt people,'” the producer. Ricky Kirshner said in an interview with variety published on Monday, January 12.
Kirshner revealed that he was “sitting next to the CBS executive” while Glaser, 41, rehearsed his monologue.
“She did, I was sitting with the CBS executive and I looked at her and she texted a few people and said, ‘Yeah, that’s okay.’ It’s OK,'” Kirshner recalled.
Production company Glenn WeissMeanwhile, she had heard Glaser’s joke while getting ready at the clubs before the big day.
“Everything in the monologue, why it nails it so well is that we’re making fun of the whole industry, including ourselves,” Weiss added. “It’s been fun.”
During the opening of the 83rd annual Golden Globes on Sunday, January 11, Glaser he held nothing back. She referred to the “very redacted” Jeffrey Epstein files, mocked Netflix making multibillion-dollar bids to buy Warner Bros. and even called out the same network that aired the ceremony amid recent criticism of its news coverage.
“The award for most editing goes to CBS News,” he joked. “Yes. CBS News – America’s newest place to watch BS news.”
Glaser also put some of the biggest stars of the night in the hot seat, included George Clooney i Leonardo DiCaprio.
“What a career you’ve had,” he said of DiCaprio, 51, who had it nominated for his role in One battle after another. “Countless iconic performances. You’ve worked with all the great directors, won three Golden Globes and an Oscar. The most impressive thing is that you were able to do it before your girlfriend turned 30.”
Glaser later acknowledged that he took a “cheap” shot at the actor. “I tried not to, but we don’t know anything else about you, man. There’s nothing else. Open up!” she continued. “I’m serious! I looked! I searched! The most detailed interview you ever did was for Teen Beat magazine in 1991. Is your favorite food still ‘pasta, pasta and more pasta?'”
Sunday was Glaser’s second time hosting the Golden Globes after debuting at the ceremony in 2025. Ahead of his return, Glaser looked Chelsea Handler deliver their own hilarious roast of DiCaprio at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards.
“He seems to have a good sense of humor about himself,” Glaser said of DiCaprio during the Jan. 6 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! “I come in peace, and I’m glad I really liked his performance A Battle (After another) and I can really get it right before I go in for the kill.”
As for whether Glaser will be returns to the Golden Globes stage for the third year in a row, Kirshner and Weiss continue to wait.
“Nikki is a great talent and I think she really found her place here,” Weiss said. variety. “I think she’s a perfect host for us. And I will say this, she’s one of the hardest working people I’ve ever met in this industry. She really cares about what she’s doing.
