Charges against have been updated Michael David McKeewho was recently arrested in connection with the death of his ex-wife, Monique Tepeand her husband, a dentist Spencer Tepe.
McKee, 39, had initially arrested on Saturday, Jan. 10, on murder charges, according to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office. However, authorities in Franklin County, Ohio, upgraded their charges to aggravated murder on Sunday, Jan. 11, according to court documents obtained by people.
How Us Weekly previously, Monique, 39, and Spencer, 37, they were found dead at their home in Columbus, Ohio on December 30, 2025. Their bodies were discovered when Spencer’s co-worker became concerned when he did not show up for work on time. After the co-worker made several attempts to contact him, they called 911 and requested a welfare check.
The couple were then discovered dead upstairs in their home, with Spencer suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and Monique suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the chest.
Spencer and Monique’s two children, as well as their family dog, were also found in the home at the time of the murders. However, all were unscathed in light of the brutal murders.
After his death, police released surveillance footage on Monday, Jan. 5, which showed a figure in a dark hoodie walking with his hands in his pockets. Alongside the images, authorities said the individual was a “person of interest” in the case.
McKee was later considered a suspect in the case of the couple’s murder after authorities spotted his car near del Tepe’s home, which was captured on surveillance footage. Detectives said the vehicle “arrived just before the homicides and left shortly after,” according to court documents obtained by people.
The suspect was arrested after authorities confirmed that McKee owned the vehicle at the time of Spencer and Monique’s deaths.
Monique and Mckee divorced in May 2017 after a brief marriage and their divorce was reportedly amicable, according to the Office of Columbus.

“It was absolutely no surprise to anyone, we all expected it, but we weren’t saying that because we didn’t want to compromise the investigation,” said one family member, who asked not to be named. The family member told the network that Monique and Spencer had said nothing about having any problems with McKee in the weeks leading up to their murders.
After McKee was arrested, his neighbor Gera-Lind Kolarik admitted he was surprised for the whole situation.
“It didn’t look like someone who would do something like that,” he said ABC 7 Chicago. “I sat down with this man and talked to him by the pool, having a barbecue, about what a beautiful day it is, and then he turns out to be (accused as) a murderer. It’s kind of shocking.”
