OpenAI declare it has acquired a small startup called Torch for an undisclosed amount. An unnamed source told the Information that OpenAI paid $100 million worth of equity to the startup. Torch’s four-person team joined forces with OpenAI, both companies said.
Torch is working on an application that integrates all medical information for the use of AI from various sources such as doctor visits, laboratory tests, wearable devices and other portals, including consumer health tests and more. The Torch team calls the technology “medical memory for AI, combining scattered records into a context engine.”
The Torch team met while working at Forward Health, Torch founder Ilya Abyzov said in the post in X. Forward is known for AI-powered doctor’s offices. That suddenly closed at the end of 2024 after raising over $400 million.
This acqui-hire meant a different fate. The team and technology will be part of OpenAI ChatGPT Health was recently announceda service for people who use chatbots to analyze and manage their health.
