Here we go again – Stellan Skarsgård is hinting that Meryl Streep could come back in a possible third oh mom movie.
“Everyone can be brought back into the movies,” Skarsgård, 74, said. Us Weekly in the 2026 Golden Globes press room on Sunday, January 11. “In the movies, it’s great!”
Streep’s involvement in a potential Mamma Mia 3 has always been questionable since her character, Donna Sheridan, was killed off before the events of the 2018 sequel, Mamma Mia! Here we go again.
The three-time Oscar winner still returned for dream sequences Here we go againwhile Lily James she played a younger version of Donna in flashback scenes. (Both oh mom i Here we go again are inspired by the music of the iconic Swedish pop group ABBA.)
Regardless of Streep’s possible involvement, the winner of the newly minted Golden Globe had an exciting update on another oh mom the sequel becomes a reality.
“A lot of people are working on it to get it back,” Skarsgård revealed we.
He then teased with a sly smile, “She’s not dead, you know! Meryl Streep (as Donna) is not dead!”
oh mom producer Judy Craymer revived talk of a new sequel in October 2023 when he said variety that the project will “happen” over time.
“I’m in the privileged position that I have Universal Studios who want to do it, who I love to work with and have a history with,” Cramer, 68, said. “It always takes a certain amount of time oh mom. (ABBA Benny Andersson i Björn Ulvaeus) always take a certain amount of convincing. I don’t know how much more convincing they’re going to get because everyone wants another movie.”

James confirmed The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in October 2020 that it would be “signed, sealed, delivered” for a sequel, while Amanda Seyfried – who portrayed Donna’s daughter, Sophie – he assured Deadline in September 2025 that the project was progressing.

In the 2018 sequel, Mamma Mia! Here we go againSophie deals with her mother’s recent death, as new secrets emerge about Donna’s lost summer in 1979. The two movie musicals earned a combined $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
