Ethan Hawke is opening up about his normally private life as a proud father Levon Hawke i Maya Hawke.
“Well, we’re here tonight as a benefit for Stella Adler. And Maya studied at Stella Adler,” Ethan, 55, said exclusively. Us Weekly on Friday, January 9, while attending a All the President’s Men benefit reading for the Stella Adler Foundation at the Harmony Gold Theater in Los Angeles.
“And so I believe in these kinds of organizations because, just, the cultivation of performance as an art form is important to me,” he continued. “And I see that reflected in Maya. She went to Juilliard. She’s the real thing. They’ve crushed it with strange things. And I’m proud of her.”
Ethan shares two children, Maya and Levon, with his ex-wife Uma Thurmanwith whom he was married between 1998 and 2005. He is also the proud father of daughters Clementine Jean Hawke i Indiana Hawkewhom he welcomed with his wife, Ryan Shawhughes Hawke.

While appearing in The Late Show with Stephen Colbert earlier this month, the Training day star joked when the director Sterling Harjo asked her two youngest daughters what it was like to have a famous father, they scoffed.
“It’s hard to have a famous sister,” she said they responded. “No one cares about my father… My sister’s picture is on the lockers everywhere.”
Like his daughters, Ethan is in awe of Maya and the success she’s found playing Robin Buckley on the hit Netflix series.

He added: “I have to say, hats off. I thought Maya did a great job. I thought the whole show did a great job.”
Despite her success, Ethan has also been candid about some of the trials and tribulations Maya has faced as the daughter of two famous, well-known and award-winning actors.
“There were a lot of things about her childhood that were very, very hard and complicated, and things that I regret about her,” Ethan said. Sydney Sweeney in a December 2025 conversation by variety and CNN’s “Actors on Actors” series.
While Ethan refrained from sharing more details about Maya’s childhood struggles, he did say that he knew she was going to be “an artist” when she was “about 4 years old.”

Of course, it’s not just Maya who’s following in her famous mom and dad’s footsteps.
“Levon was on Broadway this year, and Ibsen’s ghostsand it’s inside Martí Suprem”, Ethan said proudly we Friday, singing the praises of her son Levon.
When asked if he’s proud of his kids for making a name for themselves in an industry they’ve dominated, Ethan gave a candid answer.
“I’m proud of them for so many reasons that have nothing to do with this,” he said we. “But they are wonderful people and they will find their own way.”
