“Irrational Man” (2015)
Professor Abe Lucas (Joaquin Phoenix) is depressed and doesn’t know how to fix it. One day, he hears a heartbroken woman complaining about a crooked judge involved in her custody battle. On a whim, Abe decides to kill the judge, believing that since he has no connection to the woman, he won’t get caught. His instincts are right: after the judge dies, no one suspects him. But has Abe’s new vocation awakened something dangerous within him that cannot be suppressed?

irrational man it has the bones of a thriller, but it’s really a complex study of the sometimes shaky moral codes that some people live by and break. Phoenix is fantastic as an intellectual who finds happiness through murder Emma Stone she’s great as Abe’s student and eventual mistress. She’s the only one who suspects Abe has done something wrong, but he’s her ticket out of a bad relationship. Can he look the other way to get what he wants? And if he does, is he as bad as Abe? irrational man it raises difficult questions and some of its answers are not as predictable as you might think.

‘Empire Records’ (1995)
Some movies are worth watching not because they’re good, but because they represent such an accurate snapshot of a particular time and place. Empire Records is one of those movies.
Set during the height of the grunge movement, it chronicles a day in the life of the titular indie music store, which is run by an increasingly fed-up Joe (Anthony LaPaglia). He’s the only adult on staff, and somehow has to deal with a multitude of crises at once, including Assistant Principal Lucas (Rory Cochrane) stealing money, cashier Corey’s (Liv Tyler) hidden drug problem and dealer for Debra’s (Robin Tunney) suicidal tendencies.
Empire Records it sounds serious, but it sure isn’t. It barely has a plot or any deep characterization; instead, it exists only with vibrations. It’s enough to make it a fun watch, even if you want to weird out some of the characters. Among the cast, Renee Zellweger she stands out as the cheerful Gina, who never met a man she didn’t want to sleep with.

“The Luckiest Man in America” (2024)
When truck driver Michael Larson (Paul Walter Hauser) appears on the popular game show Press your luckdefy everyone’s expectations and surpass the reigning champion. As the days go by, Michael keeps winning, raising the suspicion of one of the show’s producers, Bill Carruthers (David Straithairn). Is Michael really lucky and just a good player? Or has he somehow gamed the system to keep winning?
Based on an incredible true story, The luckiest man in America is one of those little movies about everyday people that sit as footnotes in pop culture history. There really was one Michael Larsonand his story is part inspirational and part cautionary. If you don’t know what’s going on, the climax is surprisingly suspenseful. Who would have thought landing on a Whammy would be so exciting?
