The College Football Playoff is the perfect opportunity for aspiring NFL players to raise their profile, and few have done it as effectively as the University of Mississippi quarterback Trinity Chambliss.

The Rebels entered the 2025 postseason as the No. 6 seed, but with plenty of attention on them because of former coach Lane Kiffinthe controversial decision of leave the team and take the head coaching job at LSU.

After beating Tulane in the first round, Ole Miss avenged its only loss of the season in defeating the University of Georgia, 39-34, on January 1, 2026. Chambliss was a wizard in that game, throwing for 362 yards and skillfully and routinely avoiding the Bulldogs’ defense to cover extra ground.

“My emotions right now, right now it’s crazy,” Chambliss said after the game, according to the Clarion Ledger. “Really speechless, honestly, mostly because it was the same point, we went down nine, or they went down nine the last time we played them, so it was like the roles were reversed.”

Trinidad Chambliss began his career at Division II Ferris State

Unlike most starting quarterbacks in the SEC, Trinidad wasn’t a highly touted recruit who came into college with high expectations. He began his career at Division II Ferris State, where he led the Bulldogs to the 2024 national championship. He entered the 2025 postseason with a chance to become the first player to win a Division II and FBS national championship in back-to-back years, no less.

He was a high school basketball player in Michigan

It wasn’t even a guarantee that Trinidad would play college football. He was actually an all-state basketball player at Forest Hills Northern High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan and was named to the Detroit news all-state team in 2020.

When the Ferris State football coach Tony Annese went to Trinidad High School to recruit him, initially unimpressed after seeing the prospect on the football field. Then he saw him play basketball.

While fans in the United States may be divided over their rooting interests in college football, Trinidad has captured the fandom of Trinidad and Tobago, the southernmost island nation in the Caribbean.

American football isn’t usually on the nation’s radar, but its embassy in Washington, DC made sure the Rebels’ game against Georgia was broadcast on its televisions.

“The mission is truly impressed by this extraordinary phenomenon,” Janae Harrissaid a senior embassy executive USA Today in December 2025. “Make sure we too tune into the Trinidad Chambliss game to witness this moment on Saturday.”

Ole Miss fans are also returning the favor, with the flag of Trinidad and Tobago flying at the tailgates all year long.

Trinidad Chambliss was in a viral AT&T commercial

Trinidad surely gave some Ole Miss fans a scare when his AT&T commercial debuted in December 2025. Created as a recruit’s transfer announcement, the ad shows Trinidad sitting on her couch, surrounded by friends and family as she announces her “decision to transfer”.

The fake TV sports talk show says all eyes are on his decision and one friend seems surprised he has decided to transfer.

When his phone rings, Trinidad answers and finally says, “I’d love to transfer to AT&T,” talking about their cell phone service.
