When Trump is opening up about dating struggles as the granddaughter of President Donald Trump —Especially when the Secret Service is always nearby.
“To be honest with you, it’s really awkward when you’re sitting on a date with a guy and they’re two tables behind you,” Kai, 18, admitted during an appearance on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at Logan Paulof “Impulsive” podcast. “It’s a little weird. I try my best not to let it bother me. Especially last year, since he became president, I have had to learn that yes, they follow me, but also to focus on pretending that they are not there.”
She continued, “Obviously, they’re there. But if you can try not to really focus on that and enjoy your time with your friends or your family or whatever, it makes it easier.”
Kai said his Secret Service details took some getting used to, but it helped him realize they weren’t there to interfere with his daily life.
“For the first few months, it was tough,” he said. “It wasn’t easy having someone following you around all the time. But one time I said, ‘His only job is to protect me. I’m going to focus on my stuff and let them do their job.’ It made it a lot easier.”
Kai has kept his dating life private since emerging into the public eye amid his grandfather’s political career and his own aspirations on the golf course. She is committed to the University of Miami, where she will be a freshman on the Hurricanes golf team in the fall.
She made her LPGA debut in November 2025, participating in The Annika at Pelican Golf Club with a controversial sponsor exemption. (Sponsor exemptions are sometimes granted to those who do not qualify for an event on merit, but will bring a level of popularity that could help raise the profile of the tournament.)
As Kai continues to follow her golf dreams, telling Paul, 30, that she aspires to be a professional golfer, she has a great one to follow. his mother, vanessawho she was married to Donald Trump Jr. from 2005 to 2018, that is now leaving Tiger Woods.
Woods, 50, offered some advice to Kai before his professional debut.
“I mean, he’s the best golfer in the entire world. I’d say that. And an even better person,” he said in an interview with Fox News Digital in November 2025. “He told me to go out there and have fun and go with the flow. Whatever happens, happens.”
With his golf career ahead of him, Kai told Paul that he has decided to stay out of politics.
“To be honest with you, I stay out of politics,” he said. “Like, I would never run and I don’t want anything to do with politics.”
He explained: “I feel like politics is such a dangerous thing and I think if the two sides were in the middle everyone would be a lot happier and I think there’s a radical left, there’s a radical right and there’s a lot of people who get too extreme.”
Kai also added that he bears no ill will towards his grandfather’s former political rival Vice President Kamala Harriswhom President Trump defeated in the 2024 presidential election.
“I think that makes some people crazy and some people buy into it too much,” Kai said. “I think that’s the best way to put it. There’s no bad blood. I’m very much in the middle. It is what it is, they ran against each other.”
