OpenAI announced ChatGPT Health there, he said the company will offer a dedicated space for users to have a conversation with ChatGPT about health.
People already use ChatGPT to ask about medical problems; OpenAI says more than 230 million people ask health and wellness questions on its platform every week. But the ChatGPT Health product separates these conversations from other conversations. Thus, your health context will not appear in standard chat with ChatGPT.
If people start talking about health outside of the Health section, then AI directs them to switch.
In Health, the AI may refer to things you’ve discussed in the standard experience. If you ask ChatGPT to help you build a marathon training plan, for example, the AI will know you’re a runner when you talk to Health about your fitness goals.
ChatGPT Health will also be able to integrate personal information or medical records from health apps like Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal. OpenAI notes that it will not use Health chats to train its models.
The CEO of Applications at OpenAI, Fidji Simo, wrote in post a blog he sees ChatGPT Health as a response to existing problems in the healthcare space, such as cost and access barriers, overbooked doctors, and lack of care.
When the health system has deficiencies, using AI chatbots for medical advice create new challenges. Large language models (LLM) like ChatGPT operate by predicting the most likely response to a request, not the most correct answer, because LLM has no concept of what is correct or not. AI models are also vulnerable hallucination.
In its own terms of service, OpenAI states that it is “not intended for the diagnosis or treatment of any health condition.”
The feature is expected to roll out in the coming weeks.
