2nd season of Doc came back with a surprise cameo from Scott Wolf — but could she return as a main cast member after her shocking exit?
During the Tuesday, January 6 episode of the hit ABC series, a flashback showed Richard (Wolf) at odds with Amy (Molly Parker), which hinted at the fallout that viewers saw play out in Season 1. Parker spoke exclusively with Us Weekly about the possibilities that Wolf could return to algreater capacity at the end of this season.
“What I can tell you is that Scott Wolf is back in our lives, of all kinds,” he teased. “One is in these flashbacks that we’re going to start seeing and another way is for him to direct an episode this season.”
Parker continued, “He’s directed and we’ve already shot it. He’s around and there’s more to come.”

Viewers last saw Richard at the end of Season 1, when Amy realized that her colleague was to blame for the death of a patient. He was about to discuss his mistake with his superiors before he suffered a serious accident that erased his memory of the last eight years.

“He’s coming back. He’s coming back in a very surprising way,” the executive producer said Hank Steinberg shared with we in September “And then he’ll be able to come in with a very different energy than last year, which should be fun.”
Fox confirmed that same month as Wolf he will reprise his role for several episodes guest arc starts later this season. Wolf, meanwhile, has spoken previously we about how Richard’s secret would drive his story in the medical series.

said the wolf he loved playing “a flawed human being”, adding, “It wasn’t like he had to figure out how to justify a bad guy doing bad things. This was a very good person that any of us could end up being. But with his circumstances, he ends up in this terrible situation where a mistake has happened and his reaction is just to protect himself.”
In addition to the surprise cameo, the midseason premiere also continued to explore Amy’s reconciliation with Jake (Jon Ecker) amid her ongoing love triangle with Michael (Omar Metwally).
“This season finale is still evolving. We get a lot more of (Amy’s daughter) Katie and we start to learn how damaged she was by her mother’s crisis. Amy continues to try to take advantage of the opportunity to serve her in the best way possible. That’s pretty challenging,” Parker continued. “We have a lot of really good and interesting medical stuff going on… As the circle gets bigger, that triangle gets more and more pressure.”
