A Michigan man is charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, authorities and media say.
The deadly attack happened on New Year’s Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 31, when Milford police said the girlfriend of Peyton Bilbia requested a welfare check because he had been unable to contact Bilbia, 26, “for an extended period of time.”
Officers then entered Bilbia’s home in Milford, which is about a 40-mile drive northwest of Detroit, and found him dead“with injuries consistent with a violent attack,” the Milford Police Department said in a Thursday, Jan. 1 news release.
In a statement, Milford Police Cmdr Scott Tarasiewicz said the attack “does not appear to be random” and added that “the victim and assailant are believed to be known to each other.”
The police announced on Sunday, January 4 that Matthew Molinaroof Sterling Heights, was arrested on the day a charge of murder in connection with the murder of Bilbia.
“I fully support the prosecutor’s decision,” Tarasiewicz said in a Jan. 4 news release. “The evidence in this case supports the harshest criminal charges.”
Molinaro, 29, was arrested at a club in Royal Oak on New Year’s Eve by Oakland County sheriff’s deputies, according to authorities.
Molinaro’s defense attorney, Peter A. Torricehe did not immediately respond Us Weekly’s request for comments on Monday, January 5.
Molinaro is being held in the Oakland County Jail, police said. He was denied bail, court records show.
At the time of Bilbia’s death, officials said his girlfriend had a personal protection order in relation to his former relationship with Molinaro, The Oakland Press informed
Bilbia died from multiple stab wounds, authorities said, according to the newspaper.
“Peyton Bilbia should be with us today,” said the Oakland County District Attorney Karen McDonald he said in a statement, WJBK reported. “On the other hand, hers life was cut short due to what appears to be a domestic dispute.”
“This case is a tragic reminder that the danger of domestic violence does not end when a relationship ends.”
The prosecutor’s office did not immediately respond to an inquiry from we.
Bilbia had moved to Milford from Grand Blanc in March and worked for DE McNabb Flooring, his online obituary he says He attended Holly High School in Holly, then the University of Michigan-Flint after his high school graduation in 2017.
Bilbia is survived by his parents, two sisters, grandparents, two uncles, an aunt and several cousins, according to his obituary, which described him as someone who “enjoyed working out, mountain biking, movies, music, our dogs and University of Michigan football.”
“Ours the family is heartbroken for the sudden and unexpected loss of my brother, Peyton, who died at just 26 years old,” says a GoFundMe set up by one of Bilbia’s sisters, who set up the page in support of funeral expenses.
“As we grieve, we are focused on honoring his life and the love he shared with everyone.”
Bilbia’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 7 in Grand Blanc, according to her obituary.
“Peyton was a kind soul who loved her family and will be greatly missed by her family and friends,” her obituary said.
