Lando Norris won the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship trophy when he officially became the 2025 World Champion at the FIA Awards in Uzbekistan.
Five days after winning his first title by finishing third at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Norris was presented with the award as Formula One’s 35th world champion on Friday at his year-end event to recognize achievements in world motorsport.
“It was amazing,” Norris said of winning the championship.
“Obviously this is a lot of people’s dreams, a lot of racers’ dreams and I finally got to live it.”
“Live that one dream I had when I was little.”
The top three in the drivers’ championship must attend the annual event, which this year took place in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, at the culmination of the week of the FIA’s annual general assembly.
Reigning champion Max Verstappen, who won last week’s season finale to finish just two points behind Norris, finished second in the 2025 standings but did not travel to Tashkent on medical advice due to illness.
Verstappen issued the apology in a video message that also paid tribute to his rivals at McLaren after his four-year reign as world champion ended.
“A big congratulations to McLaren, and especially to Lando,” said Verstappen.
“You had an amazing season and it was really cool to be able to compete against you until the end. Definitely enjoy it.”
Piastre, Norris’ team-mate, won his third-place trophy, while McLaren claimed the Constructors’ Championship title for the second consecutive year and 10th time in its history.
The Woking outfit clinched that title at September’s Singapore Grand Prix with six rounds to go, eventually finishing 364 points clear of second-placed Mercedes.
It is the first time that McLaren has won the double title of driver and constructor since 1998.
McLaren chief executive Zak Brown lifted the constructors’ trophy alongside team principal Andrea Stella and said: “Fantastic season.
“All the men and women at McLaren have done an incredible job led by our two great drivers, of course the work Andrea has done leading the way.”
“To go into the final race with two drivers fighting for the world championship when everyone said it couldn’t be done, I’m just very proud of how McLaren went into the races and that’s exactly what we plan to do next year.”
